Recruiting Football Talk VIII

true.

It was more of a "be sure you're not throwing stones in a glass house" message. "Don't forget you're going to be judged for this too." If you're going to say something, make sure you're not being a hypocrite and do it from a place of honesty and clarity.
Matthew 7:1 Judge not, that you be not judged.

Seems pretty clear to me.

Went to the Titans preseason game last night.

One of our friends, when she went to open her door felt a gel substance, then her arm went numb, she felt sick and we had to take her home.

Apparently its a new way POS people try and rob people. Usually people pass out...but yeah, super weird.
I thought you were gonna say that she thought it was hair gel and used on herself.

Based on Heupel's attitude since he's been here I 100% believe he and this team expects a playoff berth this year. It might be outrageous for the fans to demand or expect, but this team is deep and stacked with winners.

Gonna be some bumps this season but it'll be a fun ride.
I think they are expecting a title after seeing the baseball team do it. I hope it carries over to both football and basketball. Winning/playing with and being friends with winners is contagious.

Ping Pong and Diving for China.

Swimming and Track & Field for the USA.

If the USA men 4 x 100 relay had just kept the same 4, they would have won gold. They had the fastest qualifying time. But the voodoo curse is still in effect evidently.
If they hadn’t screwed up the relay last night, they would have won another gold. They had their chances but miss a couple of golds they should have had.

Definitely come down if you can. Not sure if you’ve been to a game here yet, but the stadium experience is fantastic. Great little area around the stadium with some nice bars and restaurants - also a short 10 minute drive from downtown. Our house is right outside the stadium, just a wonderful little area that they’ve built up for locals and visitors.
I live in Fayetteville so I've been down there quite a bit, just wasn't aware C-MO was playing there. Gonna have to catch a game and get me Champy's fix

That word 'judge' is much better translated as 'condemn', because that's not our job. If anyone needs any proof of that, just note that Jesus immediately told us to make judgments about people.

“Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

3 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4 How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.

6 “Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.

So, we're told that when we can see clearly, we should make judgments about the speck in others' eyes. Then we're told to make judgments about who are dogs and pigs.

The "judging" (krínō) that we are told not to do has the underlying meaning of arresting, suing, or taking to court. We are not to hope for or take delight in the thought of others receiving the just penalty of their "faults/sins". But we are not to "ignore" their sin, and we are definitely not to refuse to make distinctions between right/wrong.

Four chapters later, Jesus called John the Baptist, basically, the greatest guy ever. This was the same John the Baptist that walked around street preaching, telling people they were a bunch of horrible sinners that deserved Hell, and warning them to repent (turn from their sins) and be baptized.

I mean not really, judged has taken on a much more superficial meaning in modern English. Biblical judgement does not refer to some "generalized disapproval" as we mean by it today. Regardless, the point is made explicitly at the end of the complete verse so there's no reason to speculate:
...You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.”
Obviously a very different message from "You will never see clearly out of your own eye so don't worry about your brother's eye." The only way to mis-interpret that is to do it intentionally or remove the full context.

It is quite simply just a call not to be a hypocrite.

Baseball probably college players, MLB will not stop mid season to play in the Olympics. Actually USA already plays other countries in baseball every 2 years, it's called the World Baseball Classic in March .

Exactly, so Olympic baseball would have to do what soccer does for the Olympics. Since the World Cup is bigger (and World Baseball Classic is bigger) you'd have to make a unique circumstance for the Olympics. Soccer does U23 with 3 older players. Baseball could do something similar.

You could field a pretty good team with that year's college All-Americans.

No reason USA Baseball couldn’t pull from the Minors as well for an U23 Olympic team.

Combination of the best College & Minors players.

In Matthew 5, the exact same word (krínō/judge) is translated as both "to sue" or "to take before the law".

40 And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well.

In Acts 3, as Peter is preaching a 'judgy' sermon, he uses the same word to refer to Pilate's official judgment to release a criminal:

11 While he clung to Peter and John, all the people, utterly astounded, ran together to them in the portico called Solomon's. 12 And when Peter saw it he addressed the people: “Men of Israel, why do you wonder at this, or why do you stare at us, as though by our own power or piety we have made him walk? 13 The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, the God of our fathers, glorified his servant[b] Jesus, whom you delivered over and denied in the presence of Pilate, when he had decided to release him.

I've never told anyone but my wife about this but I went through the drive-thru at the Arby's on Rosa Parks Blvd. in Nashville a few years back. I was on a break from training for work and was alone. I pulled into a parking lot at the old Fountain Square and took one bite of a beef and cheddar and immediately blacked out. There was something crunchy and chunky that tasted like incense or something I have never experienced. When I came around my truck was running, I have no memory of starting it. I sat there staring at the stuff mixed with the cheese trying to figure out what just happened. I eventually felt normal enough to return to work. I took pictures of the substance and kept the sandwich for a while but decided to just let it go. I have no idea what is was but I am thankful that I recovered.. I hope your friend does not experience any long term effects and makes a full recovery.

The Caitlin Clark “turnovers!” excuse is just lousy, and lazy.

She plays on a god awful team.
She faces double and triple teams.
She has no one to pass to / help her.

Are we to believe opposing teams would be running 3 defenders at her while she’s surrounded by all-stars?

Give me a break.

It was political. Pure and simple.
