Recruiting Football Talk VIII

SOS is really a bogus stat. It only takes into account the winning percentages of all a teams opponents. I does not factor in level of coemption those teams have faced which makes it pretty meaningless. A teams opponents could have good records but play inferior competition. A team could have opponents with poor win/loss records that played stiff competition.
Comparing teams in a meaningful way would require comps just like real estate appraisals. Neighborhood the house is in has more to do with its value than the square footage. Ex. Indiana is 20,000 sq. ft. home in the hood. Tennessee may be a single wide but its on Mar-a-Lago.

Should a 10-3 Alabama team be left out? Yes I think so.

Will the committee leave them out? Who knows...they've already been all over the place in their BS reasoning and we've had 2 rankings so far...

You may be right, SEC/BIG10 probably gets both teams in their title game in. I think we agree we need help to make the 12 team, I am just more optimistic about the chances some teams ahead of us lose a game coming up.
I don't think anyone gets left out of the sec championship game if they lose it. Old days of divisions you could be fourth best team in sec and still be in championship game. Now with top two making it I don't think they'd penalize loser. That'd be a sure way to incentivize not wanting to get into the game.

They should just rank the top20 like normal, then re-rank those 20 based on SoS and the top12 make the playoffs.

It’s perfect but they screwed the pooch with the conference championship bye. I don’t know how you could possibly fix it but it is what’s causing all these arguments.

** Maybe rank them in the top already and not in the 12 seed.
