Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Will Brooks starting at safety is more of an indictment on Banks rather than Martinez. Banks coaches safeties, but I think CWM has a hand in who starts and recruiting them. Still though, it’s not a good look if he’s the starter, unless he just greatly improved
Can all you detractors let the dude and season play before we write off Will or rhe guys behind him?

Yeah minus the white part, seems like a pretty solid reason to judge him.

I'm sure he knows what he's doing and knows the game plan inside and out. That's Willie's #1 criteria for being on the field. Unfortunately, Being a good safety is about covering grass. Colton Jumper knew the game plan inside and out too as he was getting beaten on the edge 15 times a game.

Even if Will Brooks is legitimately one of the best options now, it's hard for me to still not retroactively blame Willie/Banks for the fact that we've had someone like Jalen McCullough playing every snap for three years. And now it's Will Brooks because he has the "experience".
Georgia had walk on safety Dan Jackson play significant minutes last season including several starts. We’ll see what happens I guess

My daughter got Butch Jones. Then Coach Fulmer came to visit cause Cornbread was too busy killing the program.
I don't recall Phil ever coming to practice to speak to us. Or Johnny before him. John Ward came, though.

The summation of Dickey's speech was how unneeded the band actually was as long as we were winning. I guess he wasn't as big on the overall experience. Imagine a game without all the pageantry and Rocky Top. It just wouldn't be the same. It's part of the magic that is Gameday.

wtf

Opening the T, Down the Field, Rocky Top...I can't imagine the game without it. 2020 was so weird in that way.

I'm really into this poet that only writes about wells. It so deep!

I’m sorry that I posted anything about my favorite verse.

I believe that each person should interpret the Bible as they believe.

I wasn’t trying to say anything other than I like the verse.

Well, people do violate it even under the original Greek and they better get it fixed. Loving people toward Christ is what Jesus would do. The woman had sinned and it was wrong. Jesus asked where are your accusers after he said who is without sin, cast the first stone. He then said neither do I condemn you. He could’ve but didn’t. But did tell her to go and sin no more. We will still fail. Our righteousness is still filthy to God. Righteousness is right living. What’s in your heart is what matters and you my friend, seem to have a big heart.

Agreed, the band was the extra special that made me love going to Neyland when I was young. The pride makes it the best game day experience in college football.

Who were we supposed to play?

‘21 - stuck with Pruitt’s class. Turnage not good, Charles constantly injured, Marley not good.

‘22 - recruited under sanctions while being weighed down by 15 years of mediocrity. Walker not very good. Turrentine, Thomas and Harrison were all developmental prospects who may be able to contribute this season (except injury).

‘23 - Slaughter was a freshman, Luttrell wanted to TikTok. Conyer didn’t work out, but Gibson and Matthews are coming on at corner. Also brought in GJL who did his job.

Just not seeing where there was all that much more the staff could have done given the history and realities of our program over the past few years. They’re clearly prioritizing and upgrading the talent in the DB room with the past few classes.

Takes time when you’ve been a laughingstock for more than a decade and your low point was just a few years ago.

Maybe its an indictment on how good of a coach he is. Turning a walk on onto a starter. That sounds like a good coaching job to me.

Is Lincoln Riley a bad scout of talent and coach when he had walk on Baker Mayfield starting for him?
I just wanted to point out it wasn’t Lincoln Riley who brought Baker to Norman. It was a coach whose name slips my mind… Josh Heupel I think was their OC’s name?
