Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Nico’s 2024 stats are VERY similar to Joe Milton’s 2023 totals, but Nico has already led us to +2 wins in comparison. Ideally he’s just now finding his footing and will continue to improve from here. In the last few games he looked more comfortable.
Nico sat the 2nd halves of some stat padding games. Joe didn't. He could easily have 400+ more yards and 5+ more TD.

I hadn't compared their stats until you said this. They are shockingly close. Of course, we're comparing a redshirt freshman to a 6th year Senior so it seems very likely Nico will get better.

Milton's 2nd year on a college campus he threw the ball 5 times.

It’s wild isn’t it? I checked it because some fans have been using it as a negative against Nico. Most of the time they’re just upset about the $$ Nico makes and act like he doesn’t deserve it because his stats are close to Milton’s. Like you said though, red shirt freshman vs super senior. If Nico is this good now, and he’s getting more comfortable, his ceiling is much higher than Milton’s. Plus he’s led us to an extra 2 wins so that should weigh heavily in his favor.

Staley? Heard really good things about him this time last year.
Just because he hasn’t played this year doesn’t mean it’s not true.

A lot of good upper class ahead of him.

Webb and Nimrod been here a while.
Haven’t really seen any reason to think they’re going to be much more than they have been.
Nimrod needs to follow the Jalin Hyatt model and hit the Jugs machine religiously during the offseason. He can get open but loses focus during the catch.

It’s like someone on here after Uga game was comparing him to JG lol

Nico will be very good, can make all the throws Just a lil inconsistent at times. If Heupel can tweak his offense a little sky’s the limit

That UK loss was so bad though.
Was it worse than getting blown out by OU?

To me if the regular season has any integrity, at some point the winners have to be acknowledged.

All three of these teams are comparable. USCe doesn't have any bad losses. But unfortunately, 2 of them are to Bama and Ole miss.

We say they should have beaten LSU except for that call in the pick 6, so we should treat them as if they're 10-2.

Well by that logic, we should have beaten Arkansas except for the roughing the punter call against Arkansas. So we're really 11-1?

Problem is we did both actually lose those games.

So to me the comparison really should be Ole miss and Bama. And I'd lean Ole miss but wouldn't argue if you say Bama... Very comparable teams

I'm just not sure being the hot team should be THE qualifier to say you've earned or deserve a shot at a national title when there are score boards telling us who the better teams are.

And I'll end by saying I'll understand if OSU is seeded above us, but you'll never convince me that our loss to Arkansas is worse than their Michigan loss. We both lost in the road to top 3 teams. We both have wins against play off teams (if Bama does get in). OSU benefits from Indiana... And I think that's the difference when comparing us.. So I'll understand it.. Don't really like it. Cause the committee booted UGA completely for losing on the road to a top ten Ole miss team... But won't treat OSU similarly... Having a much worse loss than what UGA had in a similar spot.

I also think you have to look at what OU and Florida have done the second half of the season and revaluate how good those wins are now vs a month ago.

Any way... I'm pumped. We're in and back to controlling our own destiny. That's all you can ask for. But a home playoff game is on my Christmas list for sure. GBO🍊

Ok now, Dan is actually a good person. Don't put Urban on him.

He's losing it a little right now, but he's not a sociopath like Urban Meyer lol
Talking more about the losing part. Saying they aren’t going to play in another tournament again is in my book the same as Urban leaving because of health issues. Other than that they can be miles apart.

I suppose Arkansas has decided they spent too much money on Cal and the basketball team to pay a buyout and hire an expensive new coach.

Crazy that they are just going to let that program stay mediocre as the SEC gets tougher every year.
There seems to be some theoretical consensus recently that firing and hiring coaches in this NIL era is counterproductive and you might be better off funneling money into your collective instead.

They’re bandwagon mental deficients. They’ll change teams and keep watching. Viewership would prolly go up if Bama were left out. That’s what Sankey and Feinblabber are in a panic trying stop people from finding out.

The vast overwhelming percentage of college football would deem it a breathe of fresh air and health for the sport.
There was a brief time period where I stopped watching any games outside of Vols games because it was boring to see the same teams get into the playoff and the talent inequality between teams was so big that most games just seemed like boring blow outs. So for most of the Pruitt era I didn’t watch any other teams unless forced too. It felt like CFB was dead to me cause only a select few teams were allowed to cheat the most and stack up on elite talent compared to other teams.
To add to this. CFB has been saved by NIL and the expansion of the playoff. This era now feels more like it did in the 90s-2000s where any given season it feels like anyone could win the SEC or Natty. There might be a few teams who win big a little more consistently but it’s not the same 4-5 teams that have a chokehold on the game like they did in late 2000s-2020.

So yes more people will tune in because they feel the same way and the more those same 4-5 teams don’t win big the more people will tune in.

This is extremely true, especially in Professional Sports. I'm a diehard Cowboys, Lakers and Dodgers fan when they suck and when they win.

I see individuals everyday that were damn 49ers fans last season and now all of sudden wearing a Detriot Lions jersey or hat.🤦
Cowboys, Lakers, and Reds. Where the heck were you during the Big Red Machine? I also like the Lions after long suffering). Lived there for 10 years.

It’s much more fun now than when every year was “the natty is going to be Alabama vs which one of Georgia/Clemson/OSU”

Good times are now.

Current champs of baseball.

Men’s bball has us not only watching college but the pros as well. Top tier program.

Lady Vols are must see TV for the first time in 16 years.

Softball will be title contenders.

Our Tennessee Vols will be playing for a meaningful postseason game for the first time since 2007.

I agree with most of this. This year has been great. The parity in the sport was needed.

That said there are considerations to to account for thinking about the future, and we're already on a slippery slope because of nil and the playoff.

Money is the only thing that matters. And as the driving force behind all decisions made for the sport, eventually the product suffers. Parity quickly becomes 'bad product'.

So while this year has been fun... I'm not convinced this is the new norm and this is what it will be year in and year out.

Hurley is really making an ass of himself imo. Why so insecure? Just shut up and move on, bruh. I've gone from admiring him last year to not being able to stand his excuse making.

And who is that suck-up claiming that incessant crying is "an elite troll job"?
