Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Thanks, I'll have to look. I don't make chili that often, but when I do I make a chuck roast in the crock pot with some beef broth and onions, carrots. Have that for a meal, and then use the leftover meat with the now double-broth as the chili base. You can refrigerate the both overnight and peel off as much fat as you want to do away with. Or keep it all.

tonight does not matter

even if we are ranked ahead of ohio state, they are going to dismantle and re-rank based on media/conference preference following conference championships

we really won't know whether or not we are hosting until we see what happens in the conference championship games

they could put as the 6th, 7th, 8th spot tonight and still drop us to 9 next week if they need to. they are not beholden to any sort of rules or logic. they don't even follow their own precedence.

But I have holiday plans to nail down!

Prepare to be pissed.
I am. 😡😂 But if Bama is really out (we won't know yet), I will take some satisfaction in that. I think it's bigger for us that most people appear to the think. Bama's recruiting story will take a hit. In the new era, if you come to Tennessee, you be in the playoffs. When been battling that line from the red team for years.

Since Saturday, every story about the playoffs that I've seen in the press features Bama as either the main photo (most cases until today) or uses a montage with Bama (and not Tennessee) featured.

After thinking on this some more, I have landed on this unfortunate fact: barring absolute blowouts, I do not foresee the results of the B10 or SEC Championship games having any real impact on the CFP rankings in the 12 team format. Wanna get coaches and AD’s to start screaming against playing conference championship games? Knock a team out of hosting a playoff game or out of the playoff entirely because they lost an extra game against a fellow playoff team.

Think of it this way: if we were playing Texas in the SEC championship game, lost, and Georgia got to host a playoff game because of our loss and we ended up having to go on the road in the opening round of the playoff, what would be doing? We’d be screaming from the rooftops about what bs that is because we would essentially have been punished for being the second best team in the league while Georgia will have been rewarded for being the third best team in the league.

The logical thing to do just from a competitive perspective is to get rid of conference championship games (just like basketball needs to get rid of conference tournaments). Too much money involved to do that, though.

I wonder if public backlash/outrage + conference title game results will affect the committee for the final bracket?

This^^^^

Tonight's rankings are for nothing other than to prep for next week. They may keep us 9th just to stoke the anger & traffic it would generate. Honestly the best thing people could do is stop watching or talking about the rankings till the final version. If you want to flip the committee and ESPN off, then ignore the rankings show this week AND bask in the Vols being top 10 caliber in almost every single sport.
