Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Why won't they be able to stay? New scholarship limits? Could screw some people.
That’s what we’re told by d1 and d2 coaches. Luginbill talking about it the other day too. Entire roster has to be on scholarship (or compensated with similar NIL dollars). That’s 30-40 or more kids per team, 138 I believe in FBS, that are gonna told to get here in a few days.

Walk ons won’t have a choice tho is how we understand it, unless they are given a scholarship?
Success stories like will Brooks and all the other walk ons that developed into great players will be no more.
Sucks. It seems like they're making it more unattainable to a lot of young players. Those walk-on spots made a lot of dreams come true for players who would otherwise never have a chance to be on a team like UT.

I know it is probably wishful thinking, but maybe they'll give some of the walk-on guys scholarships.

tonight does not matter

even if we are ranked ahead of ohio state, they are going to dismantle and re-rank based on media/conference preference following conference championships

we really won't know whether or not we are hosting until we see what happens in the conference championship games

they could put as the 6th, 7th, 8th spot tonight and still drop us to 9 next week if they need to. they are not beholden to any sort of rules or logic. they don't even follow their own precedence.
Take the human part out of the equation. Some way some how it’s doable without the human element and bias involved.

Fact! The other downfall is lower level recruiting.
FCS, D2, and even D3 are being very bullish on offering hs kids knowing the portal will be full of kids in a few days! It will increase the level of competition in all the lower divisions, but anyone that has a great season just gonna portal up after a year!

Sorry if it’s been discussed, haven’t been on much this fall, been enjoying my sons senior year of football and working on getting him recruited. Lots of Saturday gameday visits, and catching up on Vol highlights.
Question for anyone on the board that may know, and we have heard from D1 coaches as well. So are all of these walkons, scout team, and pwo going to be hopping in the portal on the 9th with new scholarship and roster rules? If so, let’s says that’s around 3k+ kids looking for a home. Really effing sucks for hs seniors right even at FCs, d2/3 level!
Friend of mine has a son who is a HS senior. Has opportunities with basketball. They experienced the same. Transfer portal has left coaches in wait and see mode and not making as many offers to HS kids - asking them to wait.

SEC is keeping the 85 limit for 2025 pending settlement of the court case. SEC maintains 85-scholarship limit for 2025 season ahead of transformative House v. NCAA settlement
Glad to see SEC is doing that, for now. We’ve been told by B12, ACC, and several G5 coaches, their school will be adhering to the 105 rule.
We’ve been told by numerous d2 schools they are taking a wait and see approach with offers.
My son currently has 2 d2 offers, neither in which he’s very interested in. Several fcs, d2, and G5 that are very interested in him, but has yet to offer.

Top 4 conference winners get top 4 seeds. Winner of ACC will 100% get a seed above us. If Bsu loses to UNLV it will cause the B12 winner to jump us in seeding. Those games don’t matter for our seeding

SEC and B10 are the two games that might change our seeding but that’s TBD
Don't think Clemson would if Arizona St wins the Big 12.

Would be oregon, texas, boise, asu...

Lmao

why should Ohio be ranked higher than us? They have one loss against a good team and one against a 6-6 team. Same as us.

OSU, according to the committee's own rankings, would have 2 wins better than our best.

The losses are pretty comparable overall, one is H vs A yes, otoh a much closer loss to Oregon for OSU and it is a loss to undefeated #1. Seems a wash.

I could see them getting pulled to our side by the AP and coaches both being on our side, but wouldn't blame them or anyone for taking the team with the better wins either.

It'll be close either way, as the AP/Coaches poll votes show it to be. Just have to hope for the best. AND UGA and PSU to get wrecked. Really the big difference now is jumping to #6 and grabbing IU and SMU/Boise. Massive jump. Otherwise we'll have a really tough road ahead regardless.

Hahahaha im right there with you. That illogical mindset is what will get bama into the playoff. We should play this game on paper since h2h isnt important. 😂🤦
H2h uga beat us

Bama beat uga

We beat bama

H2H is well known to sports fans as the transitive property and it just doesn't work other than as a very niche part of a very close tiebreaker situation.

Otherwise you can easily find a path to where Vandy should be the SEC champs...texas lost to uga...who lost to bama...who lost to vandy...ergo Vandy > Texas? lol

True this year, but it's really the first time since Heupel's been here, largely due to how good Sampson has been.

2021 : Small / Wright / Evans - 40% / 30% / 30%
2022 : Small / Wright / Sampson - 40 / 40 / 20
2023: Wright / Small / Sampson - 40 / 30 / 30
2024 : Sampson / Bishop / Lewis - 68 / 18 / 14

He was very much by-committee at UCF as well.
I forgot all about Tiyon Evans. That dude was a homerun threat. What happened to him.

Thoughts on these 2? The second would be a fever dream for us.

No because UGA should be below us.

1 play (1 of about a dozen) from dropping 5 spots means you should still drop a spot...or two.

Wins/losses aren't everything when projecting who's best. It's how you play. This has been well researched and proven with decades worth of data and why 4-loss UT teams can go into bowl games as 10 pt favorites over 2-loss luckboxes.

Yes. If you think any B1G guy is going to choose a SEC school over one of their own. I may not like Bammers but I'll side with them over the Russians.
Russians over Bama all day long.

Do you hear any Bama fans or media arguing for us to host a first round game?
