Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Welp...the VN blame gaming and hating on everyone associated with our program is back. I will check back in a few months.

Merry Christmas. Happy New Year. Blessings on each of you and your families. Embrace them and cherish your time with them.
Think I'll join you. Most of these people are frontrunners who make me want to puke. Carry on until time for Spring Practice.

There is one great thing that came out of the trip yesterday. Many of you must be feeling the same way. Regardless of the outcome, at least we don’t live in Ohio.
Amen. On my way to the game I passed an exit with a museum for pencil sharpeners. That’s about all I needed to know for just now terrible they must have it in Ohio.

I keep seeing OSU fans online going on and on about how great the atmosphere was and how loud their crowd was last night. They’re also openly denying the obvious fact that there was 30k+ Vols fans there. Between this and the stuff I witnessed last night, they are by far the most delusional fan base I have ever encountered. Serial killer levels of detachment from reality. We need to cherish the bama fans and UGA fans of the world. I know I will from now on.

FWIW, the OSU fans in front of us, who were quite belligerent, told me we easily had the most fans there they’ve ever seen from an opposing team.

I kind of feel like I'm not gonna see another football championship in my lifetime. SEC or National. Call me soft as hell if you want for saying that, but I've survived some **** in my life. I'm not so sure I have many years left. I felt fortunate to see us win the CWS. I would love to see us win March Madness. But one more Football National title is at the top of my wish list. I just don't see how it's going to happen at this pace when the gulf between us and the truly elite programs seems so wide.
It would be fun but 95% of college teams don’t get the one you already got. Be thankful for the one you got to experience and hopeful you get another. I thought tat baseball title was pretty sweet. Basketball team is number one. My perspective is we are blessed beyond measure. Go Vols. Everything school.

Not necessarily on exact point, but the ones around us were downright insufferable. I have a habit of getting a bad mouth, both sober and after a few beers, during sports events (and all other times…), but I definitely tone it down when kids are around, as do MOST of the fine folks I’ve been around in the south. We had multiple children in front of us and to our right, and every OSU fan around us was yelling a random assortment of the most vile language your mind can dream of before, during, and after every single play, while directing it at every UT fan in the vicinity when OSU did anything good or a ref made a call benefitting UT. They also dog cussed Day and their team nonstop until they went up 14-0 and switched their talk to us in orange. I found it hilarious but I felt very bad for the families around us - I wouldn’t want my future kid(s) around such volatile people at a game. It’s a real miracle no fight broke out around us. End rant, but OSU fans were by far the trashiest group I have ever been around. Hug your rival SEC friends extra tight tonight.

Obviously there was a huge talent gap both in recruiting and transfer portal additions last night. Just wanted to say something about one particular player: Jeremiah smith is insanely good. He’s as good as Marvin Harrison jr, but as a freshman. Best wr in the country. Reminds me of Julio jones.

I like Banks. That defense has come a long way. He does need a safety or two.!
Doesn’t banks coach safeties? He’s lost a great recruit there 2 or 3 years in a row. It’s a problem needing solving. Thank god for will brooks. Turrentine is good but need better. Jakolbe thomas is good and hopefully next year he takes another step forward.

You’re need more than any time in our Vol history. Yes, this board can get really toxic after a loss, but they need a few days to settle down. Yeah, it hurt, but like all hurts they heal with time.

I personally didn’t think they were any worse than FL
or Bama and probsbly not as bad as UGA. There were some real jerks, to be sure. But some of them were cool.

Also a lot of them had been dealing with online trash talk from our fans for 3 weeks and then they beat us like a rented mule. I didn’t take it personally — they were yelling at Vol Twitter and those folks more than they were yelling at me. And the ones yelling were clearly drunk anyway.

I'm listening to the VQ podcast in YouTube..... Hubbs just let out Banks has had a new contract offer for weeks, that he hasn't signed yet.
I would appreciate it if Banks just left…. Would appreciate a new DC and would like a new WR Coach.

Also, we need to find more speed on the football field. We can’t have LBs and Safeties who can’t run with quick WRs we just can’t.

This leaving the middle of the field open is ridiculous as well and that’s defensive scheme which is why Banks needs to go.

Not that I don’t like the “Grit” Nico has but we need a QB who doesn’t hold on to the ball who can make the reads/throws and can make the adjustments at the line so we can run a true uptempo offense.

This year we barely ran an uptempo.

I was at the game last night. It’s honestly a really cool stadium. Just knowing the history of it, the layout, the bars around it. It was a cool city. I was surprised at how nice the neighborhood was.

It’s pretty loud. But if you’re used to stadiums that big, it’s not anything memorable. Death Valley, Kyle Field, Bryant Denney, and the old Cotton Bowl are much louder environments.

I cannot emphasize how much the Vol’s fans showed up. We had over a third of the crowd at least. Tennessee fans took up a significant portion of the right corner of the horseshoe. They did this chant where one corner of the stadium would do a letter of “OHIO” and it was noticeable that the “I” in Ohio was missing, because it was all Vols fans there. The Buckeye fans around me were shook. They all asked “Do you always travel like this? There’s no way!?”

Their fans weren’t super bad. They were a sensitive bunch and didn’t handle booing their team well. But once they realized it’s not personal we’re just obnoxious and supporting our team. They were fun to be around.

I’m adding a Michigan/Ohio State game to my bucket list. I’d like to experience the stress of their fanbase during that game. They are obsessed with Michigan. They won’t even speak their name. It’s a bit weird. But it’s college sports, I can’t hate it! Overall, a good experience at the game.

Heupel should absolutely ponder letting Halzle go. Not saying he will because there are bigger problems (Elarbee), but this is a thought that should cross his mind.

I’m concerned he’ll let halzle go and retain elarbee. Or retain both. In truth, both need to go.

Since recruiting rankings have existed, no team below 50% for their blue chip ratio has ever won a national title. The reality is that the teams below 50% have no shot in a 3-4 game playoff scenario.

Indiana was below 50%. ND was above 50%. ND won.
SMU was below 50%. PSU was above 50%. PSU won.
Tennessee was below 50%. OSU was above 50%. OSU won.

We have 41 blue chips.
43 is needed to be above the 50% blue chip line.

I am responding to you because you are one poster that I truly genuinely like and look forward to seeing your posts. (And not because you give @Weezer a hard time. 😆) I love the Vols and football in particular. It pains me when we have a season that ends 10-3 and we have so many posters that forget just a few years ago when we were 3-9 or hoping to get a Music City Bowl invite and were excited when we did. Yeah. There is tons of room for improvement but the bishing and hating on our coaches and players is not something I am up for reading and certainly not combating right now. I will be back, but my mental health demands I not wallow in the hating and self loathing that this board will be for the next bit. I look forward to seeing your posts in a few months. Take care.
