I just don’t think we have the dude’s on the perimeter to make those explosive plays. Hyatt and Tillman could run. Bru was a good possession type but couldn’t stretch the field. Seems like we may have missed on some WR evaluations because some of those guys were highly rated. Nico also missed some chunk plays but I just don’t see the dude’s. Ohio State had more than their fair share. I’m not sure if it’s coaching or talent but Heupel mentioned it last night for a reason. I trust Heupel to figure it out as he’s ultra competitive and smart. That 1st quarter is gonna give me nightmares, . 21-17 after that. I don't think we had the talent to win, regardless, but it should've been a much closer game.
It seems like there is a feeling of urgency missing that the program had in '21 & '22. They were going balls to the wall to win games. We need that urgency back. I don't care so much if we lose games like this as long as we're fighting and throwing haymakers. We threw 1 deep 50/50 ball last night, late in the game.
Bring back the urgency and the killer mentality.
Walking back we had several yell obscenities towards us and a few made dumb remarks like “go back to Knoxville you f***ots!” Or one guy threatened to beat up a female TN fan but her bf stepped in. It was just ridiculous.Just curious because hearing a lot of this but no examples. What were they doing?

Still a great season. Still glad I came up here for the game.
The whole time I kept thinking about what Tony V said at the national title celebration: “Make a choice. You’re either a Vol or you’re not. Through thick and thin.”
It was thin tonight. But I still love em and that will never change.
I truly think we are probably top ten but not at the level of schools like OSU, Texas, Oregon, Georgia and maybe a few others. We got a head start but some of those massive universities passed us up as they have dramatically more alumni and $$$. We do have a rabid fan base but the NIL money can’t come from the school as of now. Looks like revenue sharing is coming but not yet. OSU reportedly spent in excess of 20 million for this year’s team. It’s not a coincidence that’s where the talent is going. Recruiting is just not what it used to be. You need great coaching and talent evaluation as it’s unlikely we will ever have one of the top 5-10 budgets to buy talent. I just feel like Heupel has exceeded his roster talent and would hope we learned our lesson about constantly firing coaches. Literally only one team can win a National Championship per year. We qualified for the freaking playoffs and were the laughingstock of college football 4 years ago. I’m glad most of these toxic people don’t work for themselves because they would all be fired by themselves. Heupel is a great person and ambassador for our university and I like the way he conducts himself. I’d rather have a Mark Richt type decent human than a POS human like Urban Meyer and win a national championship. Maybe it’s my age but how about we show a little grace and be thankful for all the good that this coaching staff has accomplished. I know it’s a lot happier way to live.Yup.i think our approach has been more of a 'total value package' vs just the nil $. And it's worked in a lot of cases. But for others, it doesn't... I've lauded our unwillingness to not do the bidding war thing, for a lot of the reasons you mention.
But this thing is different now and college football is professional. So it does take some recalibration of the mindset.
I think you’re on to something and I’m afraid it’s going to get worse. I think there’s a good chance it goes the way of MLB. Big market large universities with the most money buys the best team. Here’s another thing I’m mulling: is college football really that interesting of a sport?
Lots of blowouts. Vast talent disparity still exists, favoring a small handful of programs. Clunky playoff that is killing the significance of rivalry games and has produced only a handful of memorable games. Most programs are doomed to unending irrelevance as the rich get richer. Meanwhile, programs like Tennessee can get close to the top, but may have a glass ceiling without the resources of Texas or the recurring footprint of Georgia.
Still love the Vols and I will still watch. But I have asked myself that a lot in recent years.
Please don’t go Glitch. We need more reasonable people on the board. I get not wanting to clutter your life with all the negativity. I hope you and your family have a Merry Christmas.Welp...the VN blame gaming and hating on everyone associated with our program is back. I will check back in a few months.
Merry Christmas. Happy New Year. Blessings on each of you and your families. Embrace them and cherish your time with them.
Way too reasonable and mature. You have to fire someone because we lost a football game on the road to the most talented team in the NCAA. Winning a national championship is easy, what’s wrong with you? Here’s a thought: maybe we don’t need to blow everything up trying to win yesterday’s game.
What are the odds we face that scenario ever again?
Elimination game on the road against a top 3 program who was coming off a bad loss, playing a home game with the world against them, two weeks to prepare, in 15 degree weather. Honestly I have a hard time imagining very many of the elite teams from recent years winning that game. Maybe 2019 LSU? But even then I’m not sure.
I get and agree with what your saying. My issue is in the tougher games, he is VERY slow to change and adjust to what is not working. We waited till right before the half was over to adjust and play tighter. We got a few stops doing it. I do not think he is great at in game adjustments. BUT, we get better speed at LB and safety and we can do better. We need some top safeties. And for THE THIRD...STRAIGHT....YEAR...it will once again be said...
Hey we allowed fewer points than last year (again)
And people once again want to let him go
Boy they'll be real happy when we grab up a new DC and go back to allowing 30/game.
We LITERALLY made the playoffs this year because of our defense. We don't beat UF, Bama, OU?, etc without them.
Most of OSU fans were pretty cool before the game. My sons and I rode up with my good friend and his kids that are OSU fans. Tailgated with one of my main beer distributors that’s an OSU fan, they were all fine pregame.Walking back we had several yell obscenities towards us and a few made dumb remarks like “go back to Knoxville you f***ots!” Or one guy threatened to beat up a female TN fan but her bf stepped in. It was just ridiculous.
