Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Because the reason they aren't producing is probably because they aren't being developed. Or our coach massively missed on identifying potential for literally the entire WR group.

Either way (or some of both), why would you trust that same coach to go replace the entire group of WR if he's doing so because he sucked so badly at identifying good talent or developing them over the last couple years?
I’ve said it’s the entire offense. I could give or take a change at that position.

All I know is I saw open receivers against Arkansas and missed throws later in the year. The offense got stale, too. It’s a bunch of reasons. Everyone needs to get better. But it’s still funny to see the criticism over the position and then again when those same guys leave. That’s the world we live in.

Well thats a flat out lie. They beat #17 TCU in their very 1st game at Colorado 🤣🤣🤣
That stat would be compiled using end-of-year rankings, just like they are when ranking teams for the CFP.

For example, Texas has beaten only 1 team ranked in the Top 25 at the end of the regular season: Clemson in their CFP game.

Great question. It’s a media-driven narrative and was something we heard when Hyatt and Tillman were coming out, but it was reported that the route tree and offense in general was….different. Not NFL conducive. Neither one of the them has lit it up in the league (Tillman has had some moments, while Hyatt has been drafted over). Don’t know if correct but would love someone who is familiar with tactics to educate. To me, there are a two drawbacks:
1. If it requires the WR to read the D and make a choice, that assumes a pretty savvy player can do that correctly and also is on the same page as the QB. The WR is thinking, instead of attacking and just going-confidently running the route everyone on O knows he is supposed to run.
2. We are so wide. The boundary is a built in defender. They can’t run outs and I think our WRs are easy to defend. Inside leverage limits what they can do.

Your point on half the field is spot on.

Again-I’m not a coach. Probably ignorant comments and concerns from me but I’m getting the sense it’s not known as the best place to come and succeed as a wideout. We thought elite WRs would be knocking down our door to come here after 22. Some intriguing HS recruits but portal wideouts have been, meh.

My worry as well, nothing slows a player down more than them having to think about a choice.

Calling a play and WR knows he's running a 15 yard post is far different than 3 choices he needs to make AND also the QB has to somehow know which choice is being made as well. Cause even if the WR picks right if the QB doesn't the ball might not be on time or even catchable.

Oh ok that makes sense. Would be better if he actually stated end of year rankings.

Also means we only beat 1 ranked team this year.

Boy doesn't this one seem fitting during NIL season.

Nico takes his talents to NFL after next season. MaHomes is proof you don't have to set the world on fire in college to be successful in NFL...

Excuse me, what?

MaHomes as a sophomore threw for 4653 yards, 36 TDs and 15 INTs then followed that up with 5052 yards, 41 TDs and 10 INTs

"The system" was the only thing that kept MaHomes from being the first QB taken. He still went 10th overall, but Mitchell Trubisky went 2nd to Chicago.
