Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Was it the Bad Dog Bar in Lincoln Square Neighborhood. I watched TN vs NC State there
I can’t remember the name or where it was at. I was pretty drunk for most of that day lol. If I do remember correctly though the bar was fairly skinny and then it had this back area that opened up some and had some big screens. That’s where we ended up hanging out for the game.

I'd be surprised if I got that high. 83 is actually pretty good for average Joe.
Had a lot of individual lessons etc. all I got out of it was a few non-scholarship offers from D3 level programs to which I said…. I’m going to UT and havin fun instead

Vols Calls #1 in the books.

Summary: We will have early growing pains with Nico. The roster is stacked and fans dont realize just how good the players have become. The '24 Vols are what a team would look like if '95 Nebraska and 2001 Miami Hurricanes had a baby.
What do we mean by growing pains?

There will be fans that are ready to throw in the towel on the season when Nico throws his first pick and say he's a bust. But throwing a pick is not growing pains. Growing pains to me is like actively struggling. Multiple interceptions. Holding the ball and taking bad sacks.

Joe vs. TAMU. To me that's struggling. I actually don't know if I expect that from Nico. I think he will have games with low lows, offsetted by high highs.

Not saying right or wrong.. honestly don’t care, but - I had the opportunity to pitch at smokies stadium in high school (JR. year) for a mid season tournament. Had the radar gun going and everything. Threw as hard as I could and topped out at 83 multiple times. Very humbling experience
I made no comment whatsoever about the impressive fact that the kid can throw 77mph at 12 years of age.

Same for my daughter. TCU was the goal. arkansas was the backup that got dropped as soon as she was accepted to TCU. 😎
I'll tell my daughter that I'll cover 4 years at one of my alma maters. There will be few exceptions outside of them. Bama, UGA, and UF will get her disowned. 🤣

Yes and I was saying that was equivalent to a MLB pitcher throwing 101mph. That is damn impressive for a 12 year old KID.
I can't believe you're making me explain this. What you meant was that the reaction time for a little league baseball hitter facing a little league baseball pitcher throwing 77mph is equivalent to the reaction time of a MLB hitter facing a MLB pitcher throwing 101mph.

However, a 77mph pitch is still 77mph whether it is thrown from a little league pitching mound or a MLB pitching mound. I knew what you meant. I was just joking. At least several people understood the joke.

I think of it like the Iowa game. Nico didn't have a great game (stay with me here, put the pitchforks down folks) throwing the ball. He made some plays with his arm, but he also bailed out a lot and used his legs. Something a lot of young QBs do when they panic. Gave up a lot of sacks that game too (not all his fault).

But he also found a way to out points on the board and move the offense down the field. Got gritty when he needed to be.

Growing pains result from a lack of in-game experience. As in, it'll take him 2-3 games to get the feel of the game and the identity of this offense.

Both of them were far better off for it in the long run. Kiffin is not the same coach he was at USC because of it, and Saban was fully prepared to fade off into the abyss running 12 personnel the entire way.
I think Saban knew that it was other stuff that Saban hated. Kiffin marched to his own beat and didn't fall in line.

I heard a story a while back about Kiffin being there, after they won the Sugar Bowl Saban, Kiffin met with Sexton and talked for like 45 minutes post-game, when Lane hit the locker room Saban told him to get dressed and he could shower when they got back to the hotel. Instead Kiffin stayed and showered Yada Yada and the bus ended up leaving like 2 hours late waiting on him. Stuff like that drove Saban crazy.
