Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Of Halzle, Abeln, Elarbee, and Pope, I don’t think any of them scream “ace recruiter” to me.

Edit: I liked our TE class this year. Maybe Abeln is a hidden gem, but I’m never sure who actually are the people who do the heavy lifting on these recruitments.

Yeah Abeln must be the man. We landed 2 of the best TEs in the nation for 25, spotted Kitselman despite him having little to no college tape and turned him into/polished him into the best TE on the roster and most dependable hands and blocking on the team...and hes already cooking on 26 TEs we have offered. I think he is probably the best recruiter on the offensive staff besides CJH being THE recruiter nationally at QB. He the best postion coach on the offensive side of the ball IMO.

A lot of these guys find out the hard way the bus terminal is lonely and doesn’t take you anywhere cool.

That’s a bummer for him. Who knows if it was even his choice to begin with or if he just didn’t put out the feelers first. Hope he lands somewhere he can play a bit more football.

Hope he stays for a long time.

Me too...our ST have been outstanding since he has been here in every phase. That said...that kickoff TD vs Vandy can never happen again and is a perfect example of how just 1 GUY NOT hplding their lane can give up a backbreaking 100 yard TD. Thats all it takes. 1 guy freelancing. I played kickoff and punt teams all the way through school ball. Unless youre 1 of the "headhunters" which are usually LBs...you absolutely HAVE to maintain lane discipline or you are cooked. Coach Ekeler needs to open every team meeting with that TD return for the rest of his time here. Its exactly what NOT to do, and I bet he has nightmares about it. Our coverage teams have been outstanding. Since he has been here, especially punt returns. Ekeler is good at what he teaches. Hope we keep him a long time. If what happened at Vandy had happened at Oklahoma or home vs FU, Bama etc we likely lose those games.

Where does Will Brooks sit on your list of all time VFLs? I gotta say, he made me a believer. From walkon to bama game winning starter. We might not have made the playoffs without him. Kid bleeds orange and has the whole time. Hope an NFL team adds him to their roster. Or we hire him as a GA.

Who was better 6th year Joe Milton or 2nd year Nico?
Nico: 213/344; 63.8%; 2,616; 19 TD, 5 int; sacked 28; 358 rush (3td); 70.6 QBR (36th)

Joe: 229/354; 64.7%; 2,813; 20 TD, 5 INT; sacked 16; 299 rush (7td); 70.1 QBR (33rd)

Pretty crazy how similar of seasons they had

He made an great Interception to seal the victory vs Alabama. That will NEVER be forgotten by TN fans.

He saved us several times. Baller.

I was watching a few Christmas shows and had no idea that Chad Krueger (Nickelback) was a Broadway actor. He has played in several plays as an extra in the Nativity scenes. He's played Joseph and even the front half of a donkey, but he's never made it as a Wiseman...

A dad joke about Nickelback. Wow. 😄

Nickelback is exactly what I would picture if someone asked me
" What did Canadian Wuss Rock sound like circa 2000?"

Nickelback. Thats what.

If there’s one thing Nico can learn from Joe and Hendo Cinco… stay in and climb the pocket!! No TWSS.

Hooker had pressure, it wasn’t always clean, he was fearless in the pocket. Same for Joe, problem was Joe wouldn’t let it rip soon enough.
