The Braves are spending money hoping to reinvent the wheel. That was a special team. whereby Dansby and Freddy were two clubhouse leaders. Losing Freddy hurt, and team hasnt recovered.
Its like us taking the next step. You can spend money laying the foundation of tour team. But to take that next step you gotta have star power, period. And with little farm system help, they have no stars.
Olson has been good. Even this year, he finished the year on a absolute tear. While Freddie has been better than Olson for 2 of the last 3 years, Freddie showed some serious decline in his skills this year. His OPS and SLG% were the lowest they've been in 10 years, his average Exit Velocity was also tied for the lowest in his career since they started tracking EV. It's likely those numbers continue to decline this year. Father time is undefeated. It's a good bet that Olson is more valuable for the remainder of his contract than Freddie will be for his.
I had no issue losing Swanson. $177 million for a SS with mediocre offense isn't something a winning ball club does.
Also, we have churned out more stars than basically anyone else since 2018. Acuna, Riley, Contreras (even though he was traded, he still counts), Strider, Fried, Soroka (pre-injury), Harris, Scwellenbach, etc. And the Braves are currently projected to have the 3rd best record in baseball, before we've made even 1 significant off-season addition. We field an all-star level player at every position except SS and LF. So I don't know where you are getting the idea that the Braves have no stars.
Among current farm members, Baldwin looks like he could be a legitimate top tier bat and he's a top 50 overall prospect amongst the major ranking services. AJSS and Waldrep are high potential arms that are MLB ready too. They just drafted that Caminiti kid (nephew of the late great Ken Caminiti) who was arguably the top prep arm in last year's draft. Not to mention a host of other players that showed a lot of promise. The Farm is much better than you are giving them credit for. Especially considering that we seem to graduate a MLB All-Star worthy player every year that wasn't on anyone's radar the year prior.
