Came back from being down 3 to 1. Willie Stargell willed them to win. Pirates rotation was not too shabby either. Bert Blyleven, John Candelaria, Bruce Kison, Don Robinson, Jim Bibby and Kent Tekulve for the save. I spent my summers listening to KDKA AM after sundown to catch the last 3 to 4 innings every night in the 70s.Still amazes me that the 1979 Pirates defeated that loaded Orioles team.
Orioles starting pitchers .
Scott McGregor
Mike Flanagan
Jim Palmer
Dennis Martinez ?
I remember watching that series as a 9 year old…..rooting so freaking hard for Pittsburgh….Came back from being down 3 to 1. Willie Stargell willed them to win. Even though I rooted against the Pirates, I did get a 'terrible towel' as a kid when we went on a trip their. That thing is still around here somewhere. Also, I do thank the pirates for giving my Reds Dave Parker.I remember watching that series as a 9 year old…..rooting so freaking hard for Pittsburgh….
Just a kid loving a game
