Before kids, mine did that when the pilot light was on. I just keep the pilot off because I didn't use it that much. Pretty easy to turn on even if you don't leave the pilot on, but I was told the smell was no big deal.Anyone with a gas fireplace, I’d appreciate some insight here.
My family and I just purchased a home with natural gas and one of the perks is a gas fireplace. I’ve only ever grown up with a wood burning one, so this is new to me. We’ve had the pilot lit for a few weeks now but I occasionally smell a slight propane-type smell in the living area where the fireplace is. Is this normal? It’s not a strong smell as if propane were leaking into the room, but it’s definitely noticeable. And I wouldn’t say it’s every day, but still enough for me to have a concern and ask anyone who may know.

Anytime you smell gas it should be taken seriously. I had a childhood friend that got 3rd degree burns on 80% of his body, lucky to be alive, after his roommate lit a candle to mask a smell they had not correctly identified as a gas leak and the 4 bedroom was leveled from the explosion.
My heating pump/ac unit IDK what it's called went out and while I wait for the $7200 replacement -_- I have never smelt anything from my wall unit I'm using. I'd get it checked just to ensure safety. I'd prob add a carbon monoxide alarm too. I guess I got lucky to have the natural gas hooked up in this house I bought too.Anyone with a gas fireplace, I’d appreciate some insight here.

Yea the old owners took that seriously. We have an alarm in just about every room. I appreciate it, but it’s kinda nuts how many they’ve installed. I miss my old wood burner. We had one growing up and then my old house had one, I used it religiously. I thought a gas fireplace would be cool, but I’m actually thinking of having it converted back to a wood burner. My heating pump/ac unit IDK what it's called went out and while I wait for the $7200 replacement -_- I have never smelt anything from my wall unit I'm using. We are great.Didn't vandy storm the court last year or the year before when they beat us? Storming the court/field is so out of hand now. It's cringe and no longer a special thing.
West Virginia stormed after beating Iowa State earlier today. WVU hasn't lost to Iowa State at home in TEN YEARS. Jan 10th 2015 was the last time and WVU has dominated the series.
Temple stormed the court the other day after beating Memphis. Temple is the 6th most winning program in college basketball history. Memphis is ranked like 23rd. Not that big a deal.
I blame us.
I think the natural gas is used for my hot water heater and AC/Heater unit. Everything else I have is electric. I like the gas hot water heater, always toasty. The back up heating option is nice too. I'd be miserable right now without that wall unit hahaYea the old owners took that seriously. We have an alarm in just about every room. We have the same system! Electric upstairs in the main bedroom living area, gas heat in the downstairs and the a gas water heater. Maybe they did that because they knew there was a leak that they couldn’t pay to fixYea the old owners took that seriously. We have an alarm in just about every room.
