This is my hell.Did @RikidyBones go into hibernation for the snow?
I will be the first to admit how bizarre that game was, but there's no way in hell it was done on purpose. It would be like us throwing the game to Alabama (and as a 20 point favorite, mind you) and Heupel putting himself in a situation where if he didn't go on a massive heater and win the title (or almost win the title), he could be fired.Tinfoil hat a bit but, I think Ohio State threw the Michigan game.
With a loss in Big 10 they would have likely still been where they ended up, but without playing in the Big 10 title game they gained an extra week and also gained more footage on Oregon.
Something changed majorly in those 3 weeks between November 30th and December 21st. Hosting a playoff game was more $$$ to the school, playing an extra game in the playoffs was more $$$ to the school and then obviously winning it all was more $$$ to the school.
Beating Michigan and losing in championship game means at best the 5 seed and still hosting anyway BUT less time to implement new plays/schemes etc. winning the big 10 championship might have been an "easier" path but was also less in their control. They would have had to beat Oregon without implementing anything new and then even though they would have had a month to prepare for playoffs (had they won) there was the distraction of Christmas break.
Not to mention the noise losing to Michigan created to help use for motivation for the players.
Love me some MarcusJanuary 22, 1984
Marcus Allen rushed for a then-Super Bowl record of 191 yards on 20 carries and two touchdowns on his way to being chosen the game’s Most Valuable Player after leading the Los Angeles Raiders to a 38-9 trouncing of favored Washington before 72,920 spectators.
In addition, Allen caught two passes for 18 yards on his only targets by quarterback Jim Plunkett as the Silver and Black embarrassed Washington, which was 16-2 that season before running into the Raiders.
How quickly we forget how good Marcus Allen was.............
