Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Happy Tuesday
January 28, 2025: There are still issues that must be dealt with, and this is the time to bring those nagging issues to a conclusion. Put aside dread and the feeling of incompetence, and give it another try. There have been unforeseen circumstances that were beyond your control that you can now resolve. Philippians 4:6-7 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus

I don't understand "no evidence found," which is UF's reported conclusion. Several of the accusations alleged repeated messages and (d-ck) pictures sent over the internet, if press reports are accurate. Now there is a fact of the matter with respect to those things, and the Feds have all of it. They have complete files on every American citizen in searchable storage (which Stasi never attained 😬). Those allegations are knowably true or false. If they are false, then there is evidence that false reports were filed; and if they are true, then there is evidence that he did at least some of what he was accused of. I never followed the details. If the women filed police reports, the local po po likely could get it. If he is innocent, I'm glad he was cleared. But "no evidence found" (in either direction) makes no sense to me. I also read that UF outsourced their Title IX investigation, which I didn't know was a thing. This sounds fishy, one way or the anotaher.
Title IX is dead, just like the NCAA. The Biden administration, trannies and NIL have killed Title IX. In our county, the high school openly violates it and has been told as such, totally ignores it, and nothing. They may be in compliance now, with the Trump executive orders.

You can post all the stats you want. We've all watched the games. And watching the game is always superior to looking at the box score. Nobody whose seen these last 3 playoff matchups is gonns say Mahomes is better than Allen by any discernable margin.

Watch the first few minutes of this clip where Emmanuel Acho talks about the difference between Allen and Mahomes:

Mahomes simply has it easier than Allen. He isn't beating him everytime in the playoffs because he's better. He winning because the coaching and talent around him gives him favorable looks compared to Allen.

If we switched the QBs and put Allen on the Chiefs and Mahomes on the Bills the results would stay the same. Allen would be the guy with the 3 Super Bowl rings while Mahomes would be ringless.

And yet, I just did. Just because you make an absolute statement doesn’t make it true.

Preposterous statement. You have no idea what would happen if that were the case. Unfortunately for your arguement also, we don’t live in a world of IFs. We live in reality and the reality is Mahomes is the better QB, based on both individual and team statistics, accolades, and head to head results when it matters most.

Just to stir the pot here, so you’re saying Tom Brady was easily a better qb than Peyton Manning?

Hurd gained a lot more yards than Kamara, probably would have been the all time leader if he stuck with it. Kamara is probably not in the top ten in rushing during that time period.
If Kamara came to UT and played for 3 years under a competent coaching staff, he'd likely be in the top5 all-time rbs at UT with Hurd here too. Without Hurd, I think he's easily top3.

He's an idiot. When the KC TE got mugged in the endzone and no flag came out, he said at this level let the players decide the game. It was a good no call. The guy got mugged !!!!

Two plays later, a WR got mugged in the same endzone and a flag was thrown. He said that was a good call---he's an idiot.
I’m sure your “mugging” is different than players muggings. But to finish context that you left out. He saying when a DB and TE are hand fighting it’s a good no call because of size and strength. He’s actually giving you insight of why the refs throw flags on certain plays and not others. Whether we agree or not, he’s telling you what the refs told him during his time.

Luckiest QB in history is what I call Tom Brady because he doesn’t win half the Super Bowls he did without cheating, the best coach and playoff kicker in NFL history, and some bad calls to boot. In reality, that might be true, but the reason I truly say that is simply because I don’t like the guy. He still has multiple super bowls with different teams without his first 3, and additional Super Bowl appearances where he came up just short. That’s a lot of super bowls to be in just by being lucky. And quite honestly, though I make the argument all the time that Peyton Manning was the better qb and Tom Brady just that much more lucky, he still has more super bowls than Peyton has if you take away 3. And not like there weren’t plenty of opportunities for that script to have been different, often times in a head to head matchup, and also not.

Even as the best, you need a bit of luck to go your way. But the more often luck happens for you, the less likely it was pure chance and the more likely it was a biproduct of putting yourself in the position to even be able to get lucky, over and over again. The best do that. They have the best coaching, make the least mistakes, and make plays and create opportunities for others to make plays over and over again, especially when it matters most. Btw, not saying Josh Allen hasn’t done that.

Additionally, one play doesn’t decide a game. I could easily pull up the film tape from those games, find a drive where they didn’t get a first down close to field goal range and say “SEE! If they had just made this first down they likely would have scored and won the game!” Would that be any less true than “See! If they made this field goal they would have won the game.” Reality is that there’s an insane amount of preparation that’s put into these games and the outcomes are a biproduct of that and an accumulation of plays that needed to be made over the course of the game in order to win the game, and subsequently win enough games to win the big game.

Maybe Josh Allen’s athletic measurables at the combine are more impressive than Mahomes. Maybe he’s the better athlete, but not the better qb. Or maybe he’s both? Maybe his individual total and average career stats end up being more impressive than Mahomes. Maybe Josh Allen will end up having more super bowls than Mahomes. Or maybe he ends up with worse statistics. Maybe, he ends up with no super bowls. Or anywhere in between. Let’s not talk in maybes. He doesn’t maybe have the most yards thrown for or touchdown passes or Super Bowl rings so on and so on. There’s nothing his team hasn’t had that he needed to be able to win the big one. He’s got all the tools within himself and on his team and on his coaching staff. His team didn’t lose because kinkaid dropped a prayer on 4th down on a potential game tying/winning drive. His team lost because both he and his team didn’t do enough to win the game outright. At some point, you have to not call it luck and call it like it is. Two tremendous QBs. But only one of them is on pace to, currently, be remembered as one of, if not the greatest qb of all time.

Josh said it himself in his post game presser. You want to be the best, you have to beat the best, when it matters most.

I used to say that about Brady. But at some point, iwhen a lucky streaks turns into a trend, you just gotta admit that it is way more than luck involved. Brady was just amazing QB, but he also had a way to motivate his team to win that few people in the history of the game had the ability to do. And the SB that proved that to me was the Falcons SB. There is zero reason why Patriots should have won the game. But you could see in real time how the Falcons started to press and get uncomfortable throughout the 2nd half of that game as Brady started playing better. They could feel what was coming. Mahomes has the same trait.

In a way, he's much like Tiger Woods in his prime. It wasn't that Tiger was just so far above every other player talent wise (to some extent he was). It was the mental fear that he instilled into the other golfers. The fear that, even if you had a comfortable lead, you never really felt comfortable as long as Tiger was near the leaderboard. And that fear was multiplied whenever they started hearing the Tiger roar starting to pick up around the course. It made golfers play differently than they normally would and Tiger seized the opportunity.

Drive thru your neck of the woods a lot. I refuse to go through Chattanooga and Atlanta on my way to Auburn to visit some grands. Leave Maryville area on 411 to Rome and latch onto 27 all the way to 85 14 miles from W of Bama border.

Actually take AL 53 as a shortcut from 411 to 411 as odd as that sounds. Takes us to Buc-ee’s at Calhoun as our halfway stretch and OTHER old age stop.
If I have to drive to Atlanta or further south, I take 411 to Cartersville, then get on I-75. Man, I hate having to go through or around Atlanta.

Sure seems like the area or a specific rafting provider could advertise in the Tennessee markets with his NAME and IMAGE with a RUFFINg it on the RIVER campaign.
I was thinking about how to arrange something with one of the outfitters to do a complimentary trip, but that might not be legal from an extra benefits point of view.
