Watching debates unfold with chronic debaters—ones I wouldn’t have even noticed if someone hadn’t engaged—has been reaffirming. I’ve come to realize that if you love debating, you’re absolutely entitled to enjoy it, but don't ask me to share your joys when the ground has been strip mined and the opinions laid bare. Personally, I just don’t like getting emotionally sidetracked as a pastime.
I’m not seeking conformity, but I do notice that many of you can articulate a point gracefully and move on without unnecessary fanfare. That approach has been a great example for me, and I appreciate those who help me do the same.
Lately, I’ve been snoozing a lot of highly political voices on both sides of my feed also. It feels like, for too many in a vocal minority, being right has become more important than knowledge, wisdom, or understanding. As a centrist more often than not, I’m painfully aware that this phenomenon runs rampant in both camps—the only thing that changes is who’s celebrating and who’s crying. Lol.
