Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Cam Ward is a physically gifted player with some bad mistakes on film.

By VN logic that makes him and all other 1st round QBs not named Peyton Manning or Andrew Luck equivalent to Will Levis.

In my personal opinion, I think the conversation is too centered around his poor decision making at times, and we're not talking about stretches he has had with just poor accuracy. That's more of a concern to me.

Cant really judge it without knowing what kind of offers they could get for that pick. I think you take Cam Ward all day before you use the number one overall pick on Abdul Carter or Travis Hunter. But in a perfect world we would taken one of the many stop gap QBs and traded back.
Our. My issue with Titans is continued snowball of bad decisions. Anyone who would draft Will Levis as a starter doesnt know football. They've had massive issues at WR, CB, OL etc. And they're slow.

I know its important to get FA help, but, their philosophy if drafting a top QB and cosching them is wasting picks, and time. Get the pieces in place. Get a horse at RB, get the OL solidified. Upgrade speed at WR. Then find your QB and pay them.

At least that's what id do. You've got a great product, stadium, and area.

If they had gotten just a single upgraded bat for either 1st or LF, then I would think so. But their idea of an upgrade was Tommy Pham, who has batted .125 in spring training. They have a lot of 2 to 1 and 3 to 2 losses ahead. I am hoping they clean house after they fail again. It is 6th year of current regime. Just sad too. Best window of opportunity they have had in a decade and the cheap owner will piss it away.
Especially when you have team control over that dynamic pitching staff for 3 or 4 more years together. Spending a dollar on a power hitter is worth the squeeze...

I think Cam Ward can become a solid to good NFL QB...my biggest gripe is just that I don't think he's #1 overall talent. (I don't think any of the QBs are)

At best Cam Ward is Russell Wilson who went in the 3rd round.
A real #1 overall QB is rare, imo. Maybe every 3-4 years, maybe longer.

Cam Ward drives a squatted Toyota Tundra. . .

Agreed.

2024 - Jayden Daniels (but still TBD, one year doesn't prove it imo) - went 2nd
2023 - CJ Stroud (still TBD, great first year, came down to earth this past season) - went 2nd
2022 - no one
2021 - Trevor Lawrence
2020 - Joe Burrow (Tua Tagovailoa, Justin Herbert, Jordan Love, Jalen Hurts pretty deep QB class)
2019 - Kyler Murray
2018 - Baker Mayfield (Sam Darnold, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson)
2017 - Mitchell Trubisky - went 2nd (Patrick Mahomes, Deshaun Watson
2016 - Jared Goff (Carson Wentz, Dak Prescott)
2015 - Jameis Winston (Marcus Mariota)

So really imo the last 10 years there's been a few. But a few you could argue weren't really ready to be #1 and needed time to develop.

Burrow & Mahomes both hit the ground running in their first years starting though. Most the rest it was a year or two before they hit their stride

Caligula becomes Emperor of Rome

On this day in the year 37, the Roman Senate annulled the will of the Emperor Tiberius, proclaiming 24-year-old Caligula, Emperor. After years of purges and treason trials, Caligula’s ascension to the throne was a welcome breath of fresh air. The son of the war hero Germanicus was in charge. What could go wrong. All of Rome erupted in paroxysms of joy, proclaiming Caligula to be the first emperor Ever, admired by “all the world, from the rising to the setting sun”.

160,000 animals were sacrificed in three months of public jubilation. The Jewish philosopher Philo of Alexandria described the first seven months as “completely blissful”.

The "Bliss" would not last........

I mean....my question is, what mistakes has Cam Ward made on the field?

Only 6 games in his college career at the P4 level (3 years) did he throw under 60%
Never threw more than 2 INTs in a single game while playing in 38
Only 7 games did he not throw for at least 200 yards

Levis had an attempt in a total of 32 games in his 4 years at the P4 level

10 times he failed to hit 60%
Only 13 times did he throw for at least 200 yards
Threw more than 2 INTs in 2 games

One guy had a career full of mistakes on the field and the other is Cam Ward.
I agree. My untrained eye sees a quarterback with a lot of talent. I think if he played for Bama, Georgia or OSU he would be the unquestioned top pick. Anyone with a brain that watched Will Levis actually play football knew his chances of success in the NFL were EXTREMELY low. The reality is success in the NFL is hard to predict and the team you go to plays a big role. The Titans have been a dumpster fire so the hill is very steep. They almost have to take the chance he’s the guy unless another team offers a lot for the pick.
