Rewatching the game to see if my first impressions hold up to scrutiny.
First impressions were that the O line was a bit of a letdown, I expected them to impose their will. The running backs did well great vision and being decisive. The linebackers didn't clean up as well as I feel they should have. The DB's weren't really tested but for the most part they were where they were supposed to be. Nico looks polished, he has a grasp of the offense and where his trade are supposed to be.
On the deep throw by Nico to Thornton Jr to the left side of the field, I had to stop and post. His footwork was amazing to the point that when he saw the receiver was going to beat coverage he released the ball in under a second. That may be the most impressive thing IMO as such a young and inexperienced QB..... That's a top tier QB throw at every level, recognition, footwork, delivery and touch were impeccable.
Cam is a good runner but isn't where he needs to be in pass pro. I've seen a couple of plays where he was indecisive and it cost yardage.
The o line wasnt as disappointing as I originally thought. Mostly technique and form issues that should iron themselves out. For instance a holding call that happened on a Nico scramble, the lineman just let the defender get under and gain leverage, he had control but when the defender released to make the tackle his hands were over the top and it made an exaggerated jersey pull that refs see every time.
