Recruiting Football Talk VIII

A squad of soldiers in the desert have nothing to eat, the sergeant looks at his map and calls a private over. “Ok private, I have a top secret mission for you. According to this map there is a bacon tree 10 miles north of our position. I order you to bring back the bacon tree, so we can all have bacon sandwiches and go on to win this damned war." The private scratches his head, “A bacon tree sir? Are you sure about that?” “Yes private, a bacon tree. No more questions! Off you go!"

The private vanishes over the horizon on his critical mission. Night falls, morning comes, no sign of the private. The squad are getting really hungry, but they have water left. Night falls, morning comes, again still no sign of the private. The seargent does his best to rally his hungry troops, but it’s a difficult task. They may have to retreat and leave the desert for the enemy. Again night falls, morning comes and still no sign of the private.

The seargent is just about to give the retreat order when a figure is spotted on the horizon. "IT'S THE PRIVATE!" But something is wrong, as the private staggers towards the camp the seargent can see that he is covered in bullet holes, knives sticking out of his back, an arrow in his leg, and he's been beaten black and blue. The seargent runs over and says, “Private where is the bacon tree??” the private replies, “I’m sorry sarge, but your map is wrong. . . It was a ham bush!"

Basilio talking about things he’s hearing behind the scenes. When Butch was coach he heard all kinds of negative things TB didn’t want to share while he was still our coach. Basically waited until the end then shared how bad things were. On the flip side, he hears nothing bad behind the scenes with Heupel and the culture. We’re seeing an emotionally intelligent coach who has created an excellent culture.

The conversation turned to the tight ends. TB says he has heard from multiple people that leading up to the UTC game the staff felt like maybe they had missed on Staes. Something about how he performed in fall camp. Maybe he can play his way out of this perception.

🤔 Confused about this timeline. Baby in winter of 2025. Pregnant=9 months. 9 months from today is June. I guess she means this winter. Super pregnant and in your first season of Lady Vols coach...is something.
Hence...why I said "This is going to be interesting"

Baby is gonna come right in the middle of the season...that is a problem.

But how nice is it that these seem to be the exception and not the rule?!?

So I was in a shoe shop this morning trying on a shoe, I said to the assistant "It's too tight".

She said: "Try it with the tongue out"

I said "It'th nho ghood, itth thill thoo thight".
How many actually read that with your tongue out?;)

Heupel is confident because he knows he's got a masterful grasp of offensive schemes, and offense is what runs CFB right now. He's got a huge advantage over almost everyone else based on that alone. And when a coach is confident, he can stick to his plan and vision for the program, which then leads to greater buy-in from the team and staff. Butch wasn't confident and it showed everywhere in the program starting in 2015.

And about Staes: does that mean they think he's overrated and is a waste of a scholarship? Seems odd for TB to put that out there when the kid has only played in one game.

Yeah that's weird. How good did they expect him to be? He already looks at least as good as Warren, Castles or Fant. All different players, but he didn't do anything that made it look like he wasn't at least average. Don't need him to be Tony Gonzalez.

Yep. As you stack talent you can miss here and there and not devastate your odds of winning games.

On Staes it’s related to Fall camp performance. Not clear if it’s based on effort, ability, or both.

You dropped a Nick Saban "special memory" post in the VN RF and think that's just going to slide. It's TENNESSEE VOLUNTEERS football season, you know better.

*I'm not questioning your fandom, just your mindset.

HATE THE TIDE.....ALWAYS

Remember what Tony Vitello said, "You're either a VOL or you're not" and being a VOL IS HATING ALABAMA.
Double Gauldens to Bama. Always Double Gauldens.
