It's not ideal but let's see how she handles it.

Yeah that's weird. How good did they expect him to be? He already looks at least as good as Warren, Castles or Fant. All different players, but he didn't do anything that made it look like he wasn't at least average. Don't need him to be Tony Gonzalez.
This was my thinking. Staes doesn't have to be dynamic. It looks like Davis can catch, and Kitselman can block. Just be solid, and he will be fine. All variations of TE's will get open in this offense.

As a female head coach or athlete there's never a "convenient" time to be pregnant or have a child. Having one mid-season is pretty inconvenient, but I'm sure this wasn't planned. CKC is way too competitive to have a major interference during her first season if she could help it.

Congrats to her and her family! They'll figure it out and I'm sure the team is going to be in good hands during any time she has to miss. And as long as there's quality leadership within the team itself they shouldn't skip a beat imo.

Basilio talking about things he’s hearing behind the scenes. When Butch was coach he heard all kinds of negative things TB didn’t want to share while he was still our coach. Basically waited until the end then shared how bad things were. On the flip side, he hears nothing bad behind the scenes with Heupel and the culture. We’re seeing an emotionally intelligent coach who has created an excellent culture.

The conversation turned to the tight ends. TB says he has heard from multiple people that leading up to the UTC game the staff felt like maybe they had missed on Staes. Something about how he performed in fall camp. Maybe he can play his way out of this perception.
Not ever transfer comes in right away as a star player. Bru McCoy improved. Hendon improved. Milton improved. Many said the same about Dont'e Thornton early last year and now he looks poised to be a Top WR in the country.

We tend to have pretty high expectations for these highly regarded transfers but they aren't finished products and they have to adjust to new schemes, new settings, new demands, etc. Some transition quickly, some need a couple games under their belts, some need a whole season and offseason.

Staes has two years of eligibility. Kitselman is older and came in as a more polished blocker. He's clearly carved out his role to play. Ethan Davis is a more polished pass catcher. That leaves Staes as the 2 behind both in either situation. But it also means he's probably more versatile and he will be called upon when someone gets banged up.

If all that is true, I'd expect Staes to breakout either late in the season or next year.

Moreso, lets see how the team handles it.

How the team handles it will tell us more about CKC's ability as a coach than anything.

For example: think of how each team would react and perform if Pat, Holly, or Kellie had to miss a month of a season.

Pat's teams probably wouldn't flinch because she prepared them, she set the expectations for how to practice and play, and she had quality leaders in the locker room every year. The other two might fall apart due to poor team leadership and lack of respect for the HC.

If those girls stick together and keep the standard of play and performance up, that tells me CKC garners a lot of respect and she's established great team leadership in a short amount of time.
