There’s no risk in getting “bad smoke” with a pellet

I have both. If I have time, nothing beats the low and slow old method. I have yet to get the same flavor from a pellet smoker. It is good and quick but not as good as traditional smoking.

I want to start to learn the whiskey/bourbon scene. Don’t know a whole lot about it. Any solid recs to start in the 40-60 range? Then maybe in the 100ish range?

Buffalo Trace, wild turkey 101, elijah craig (toasted barrel if you can find it). Eagle rare if they're not ripping you off. Weller special reserve. If you're not a seasoned whiskey drinker I'd stay with the lower proofs, 80-90. I drink it neat but some will chunk an ice cube in there. You don't have to but i prefer the glencairn style if glass for drinking neat.

Beware though, it gets addictive. I'm not talking about drinking it but the chase.

My dad says he wants a pellet smoker. Says it tastes as good as the old way.

I respect people who use automated pellets, but dang does it take away the fun of it for me. I don't smoke a ton because it is work, but that usually makes it more special when I do. I love mowing my grass too though and I know guys hire that out or are starting to use robots.

Offsets are fun for the once a month smoke, but just tedious for 2 or 3 times a week.
