Recruiting Football Talk VIII

I was a first time head coach for my son’s baseball team. As an assistant coach I always threw batting practice. I was so nervous before the first game (more nervous than the team 😂). I was throwing batting practice to my son. He was the last one for batting practice. He hit a line drive right back at me. I had an L screen, but didn’t move. Ball looked like it would hit the screen. It went right over the screen and hit me in the solar plexus. 😳

The bright side was that I quit being nervous about the game. 😎
I coached little league for 4 -5 years or so. When they're first learning to hit it's tough on the pitching coach! My injury story...I was catching my son in the driveway and trying to get him used to throwing with a batter....I set up a trashcan next to the plate to "simulate" where the batter would stand. He was about 11 or 12 at the time and had been pitching for a year or two. He put one just off the side of the can and of course I caught it in the eye. Bloodiied my nose and my eye was swollen shut for 24 hours. In hindsight, one of the dumbest things I've ever done...of course I was gonna catch a ricochet...so stupid on my part! He was pretty freaked out. Blood everywhere. I miss little league baseball. We got screwed out of a season because of covid. Wish we had that back...
