Recruiting Football Talk VIII

I would like more information, please. Sounds like a good cause.
This is what I think I know (all from following him on Twitter/X)
VERY Dedicated Tennessee Fan 🧡
He owns a fabrication/manufacturing/ITish business in East Tennessee
He and his employees responded immediately to the needs in the mountains after Helene and dedicated all their work (physical labor) there for a couple of weeks. He paid his employees during that time.
He donated and help raise funds for immediate needs in mountain towns affected and delivered “stuff”
He donated and helped raise funds for Christmas gifts to Childrens Home in Western NC affected
He delivered gifts there
He has a competition with the fans for away games he goes to - benefits away team children’s hospital by buying away team‘s swag & delivers to that hospital‘s kids. (started with Georgia 2 years ago, I think - even fabricated a trophy that is with Georgia or Tennessee location for fundraising the most $$ - Georgia won the first year and in ‘24)

This particular effort (Ohio State kid) was started when he learned about this little guy a week or so before we played Ohio State. Focus was to get little guy to game in a suite. Raised enough $$ to pay for transportation, hotel and Coach Day made the suite happen. So much $$ raised that he & his wife, and little guy and his mom & dad went on a shopping spree to buy swag and deliver to local children’s hospital. Left over $$ given to little guy’s family to pay for transportation costs to get to NC for special treatments.

Little guy’s dad posted how excited little guy was about championship game - hence this effort.

K - been thinking about Regular Season & Playoff football games/schedules:
All teams - 10 regular season games + 2 byes = 12 weekends
(2025) Start regular season August 30 and end regular season November 15
Conference championships November 22
16 teams make Playoffs - no byes, no gimme conference champs - based on top 16 at end of regular season

1st round (all teams play - 8 games, neutral fields (”bowl games”) all December 6
2nd round (4 games, neutral fields (”bowl games”) all December 13
3rd round (2 games, neutral fields (“bowl games”) all December 20
Championship Game, neutral field (bowl game) January 3

14 (or 15 if conference champ game) total games
I think Pros play 17 regular season games…do they have any byes in regular season?

Thoughts….GO!
Yes NFL teams get 1 bye week...

I like it, but I think 1st round should be home field advantage for top 8. I also think you have to give conference champs automatic bid BUT seeding is based on where they’re ranked. So if they’re a conference champ but outside the Top 16, then 16th gets booted and conference champ is in at 16th seed. I just think you gotta reward the conference champs, otherwise what’s the point of 1) playing in the conference title game and 2) conferences in general?
Being Conference Champs and hanging the banner! 🧡

Also, I’m kinda looking at it like a “second season” - like March Madness 😁

Do you know what a "Mercury Cyclone Spoiler II" is? I saw one today. The "Cale Yarborough Special". . . there are 2 kinds, the "Cale Yarborough Special" and the "Dan Gurney Special". They look like the same car at first glance, aside from the stripes (one has blue stripes, the other has red), but when you look closer you can see at least 1 difference. The front end on one is shorter. There are probably other differences, but that's the one I notice.

I don't think there are many original Cale Yarborough Specials left around today. I saw an original Dan Gurney Special about a year ago in Townsend. I didn't even realize what I was looking at til I got home and looked it up. Turns out that the Dan Gurney Special I was looking at is thought to be the only "survivor" Cyclone Spoiler II DGS that still exists.

Not a good look.

I’ve wondered if the average Joe thinks the playoff just stretches on for too long, and if playing at odd times makes people less likely to watch (midweek games).

I might like a tighter schedule and all Friday and Saturday games. Probably tough with so much college basketball.
