Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Went to bed before the game and predictably woke up in the middle of the night so found out what happened by catching up here. Honestly some folks seem to get more pleasure out of watching Tennessee struggle so they can preen about how right they are than they get out of winning.

Shows and Adams. Not just with calls, but what should be calls. Simple as that. Year after year.

We always have to be good enough to beat both the opponent and the officials. Same as in football.

Again - I cannot get serious about basketball until the tourney. Let's see what happens in March.

I doubt the Deacon will put up with this much longer. Life is too short. Can't blame him.

The one thing I hate about Basketball is the referees have too much influence. One day, maybe these final shots will go our way. Great play by Z, Okpara and Mashack. Just wish we could have won it.

I quit watching basketball years ago due to this. The officiating is too subjective for me to enjoy the sport. Epic hard fought games are usually impacted at the last minute by a bad call(s). It's just not much fun to me.

why change methodologies 3/4 way through the game from ultra conservative to hair on fire?

I love it, but I see your point. Refs impact the game way more than any other sport, IMO. VOLS have often been on the bad end of it too.

I only watch the Vols play. Officiating has ruined the game for me. Last night is just an example of inconsistent officiating. Yet, the officials in the our game are considered some of the best and will be rewarded with post season work.

Raid on the James Family Farm

Mistakenly believing Frank and Jessie James are hiding out at their family home, a gang of men—likely led by Pinkerton detectives—mount a raid that leaves the outlaws’ mother permanently maimed and their nine-year-old half-brother dead.

The Chicago-based Pinkerton Detective Agency had been pursuing the James brothers and their gang since 1874, when several big railroad companies first hired the Pinkertons to stop the outlaws. Responsible for a string of bank and train robberies, the James brothers were already famous for their daring style, and some even viewed the men as modern-day Robin Hoods. The Pinkertons, though, had no such romantic illusions about the outlaws. One of their best operatives working on the case, John W. Witcher, had been found dead from a bullet wound to the stomach, with his head, shoulder, and face eaten away by wild hogs. The Pinkertons were convinced Jesse James and another gang member had murdered Witcher, and they were determined to stop the outlaws.

In late 1874, the Pinkertons learned that Jesse and Frank James periodically returned to their old family farm in Clay County, Missouri, to visit with their mother and other family. On the night of January 26, 1875, a gang of men surrounded the James farm in the mistaken belief that the James brothers were inside. In an attempt to flush the outlaws out of the house, the gang threw several flares through the windows. Unexpectedly, one of the flares exploded instantly, killing Frank and Jesse’s young half-brother and blowing away their mother’s arm. Though the identity of the gang members has never been determined with absolute certainty, contemporary admirers of the James Brothers and modern-day historians agree that the Pinkertons were probably responsible. Regardless, the incident gave credence to the popular view that the men were innocent victims of the powerful railroads that had hired the Pinkertons to wipe them out.

After the attack on the James farm, the Pinkertons appear to have backed off from their more aggressive tactics. One of his own gang members, not a Pinkerton operative, killed Jesse James for a bounty in 1882. Frank James surrendered shortly thereafter, but no jury would convict him, and he remained a free and law-abiding citizen until his death in 1915. The grave of Jesse, who was buried in the front yard of his mother’s farm, became a popular tourist attraction. For many years, tourists could pay Mrs. James to visit the grave and listen to her tearful and melodramatic account of how venal Pinkertons and evil railroad barons had so unjustly persecuted her good and utterly innocent sons.

Very mature!!!🤣🤣🤣
Neither him nor dad
I heard a good quote the other day: "A person will generally stay the same mental age that they were when they became rich and famous."

Makes sense. Everyone starts kissing your ***, few people tell you no. People stop inadvertently teaching you what it is to 'adult'.

I dont know how to fix it. Its worse in football, IMO.

My Dad, son, and I watched ETSU get hacked by UTC today. Twice the Ref called ball for UTC, it was so egregious, people were F Bombing...at ... a ... ETSU bball game. Ive never heard that, in 40 years of attending. Ever.

Missed hack fouls, then on other end we get called for a ticky tack.

It is hard, very difficult to watch these games and NOT buy in that there is sports betting involved with these refs. Now, my optimistic self believes everyone has integrity, and is doing it for the love of basketball.

But, my human self knows better.

Either way, i'm choosing joy. My Dad took me to see Calvin, Keith, Greg, Marty, and Pelphrey play. As I sat there in the stands, saw Calvin climb into his seat, as I held my son. This is cool. Talford is such a good dude. Glad he's still around the program.

Happy Sunday

January 25, 2025: Search until you find that place in the Spirit where you have faith, grace, and peace. It is your sweet spot and a place where you can gain understanding not only of yourself, but of those around you. It is a place of love and appreciation where you can both survive and thrive. Ephesians 6:10-11 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

@The Dog

I'm taking the Chiefs over the Bills today. Would like to see Josh go to Super Bowl but it's hard to bet against Patrick, especially in playoffs.

The NFC matchup, hoping for a meteor with 2:00 minutes left in 4th quarter. I despise both of them. 🤣🤣

Those Buc teams were fun to watch.

Definitely been a rough week and a half for the Vols.

- Lose McCoy
- Both basketball teams lose. Men lose twice with one coming to Vandy.
- No Tate
dude. mccoy will be back.

girls coach was out giving birth, and they lost to the #7 team, on the road.

Men played their butts off, against the number one team in the country, legit. Auburn is a tough tough place to play. Gainey had the flu, and we are banged up. And we could have won!!

tate was never coming.

here's the issue I have with bball.

Where is Darlinstone? Where is Bishop? Cade is a dog, but then just disappears.

Chaz is a product of unfair expectations. he's got to live up to generational talent. To that point he can still be criticized. His play thus far isn't good enough, he has to take more shots.

Once again we have one offensive weapon who teams double. Millicic can't find a rhythm. Team is very close to elite. But will need DD, BB, or CP to be a scorer.

I love Rick but his recruiting, esp in HS hasn't been elite. Coaching is excellent.

Football - WR and DB recruiting net was not cast wide enough, period.

ooooook

Me too and we had it won. As usual.
Toward the end of the game last night you could basically see how the game would end.

As soon as Broome saved the out of bounds pass and kicked it out to dude for a 3, I knew that was going in. It was around the 20-30 second mark.

You can just about guess how games will go toward the end.
