Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Maybe he is super uncomfortable, upset, or whatever. Saying "It's a business" doesn't just make the human element vanish from existence.

But I don't know how you're supposed to tell from a 10 second clip of him with a DNP designation sitting on the bench during a timeout. I mean I'm not sure what he's supposed to look like instead lol.
Exactly

Well said

With all due respect, this is one of the least accurate takes on our athletics. Our ticket prices are comparable, yet our results are superior.

Tell me, how good is Ohio State in baseball or basketball? They spend the most on football.

How successful is Duke in football?

How good was Auburn in football?

What kind of return is South Carolina getting in basketball this year after their coach won Coach of the Year?

How much less does Texas A&M spend? Or Texas, or any other top-tier program?

If you want to be frustrated over a loss or a failure to win a playoff game, that’s fair. But let’s not insult each other’s intelligence.

We do not spend the most in NIL. We do not spend the most per average fan. We are actually blessed to have a few large boosters. We do not have as prominent or generous a booster as OR, Miami, or lowly SMU. They all have one huge hitter.

For perspective the SMU donor is completely covering ALL lost TV revenue for the school just so they could join the ACC. They get zilch from the ACC until they completed a waiting period. Nobody else is doing that.

Please do some research. Please.

NIL is like a subscription. If you don't like it don't participate. If you don't participate please don't harp about the NIL aspects of the product. If you hate the NIL fine then hate capitalism.

If your lone complaint is about tickets be frustrated with inflation and the fact we are good not disingenuous that we aren't. Ticket prices are never high when we suck. No one ever complained about ticket prices in Dooley or Pruitt's last years except to say they should be paid to go. Oddly when they could not sell tickets there were literally threads about a preference to watch at home or not watch at all.

Lol 😆 you literally can't make these arguments up when tracked over time.

I got no beef with debate or disgust I do have a beef with knee jerk generalizations.

Basketball you gotta have both a great offense and defense to win the championship. Preferably top 20 in both Kenpom. Tennessee has had issues under Rick with shooting % with only 2 seasons where his teams have finished above the middle nationally in offensive field goal percentage. Everything else is good except shooting.

It's difficult to find average ticket prices at each school. But I found this. If it's true, we aren't even in the top 13.

Yeah, but how do you define average? Is that average of the face value? Average price paid by season ticket buyers? Average price through the gate? Does it include the infamous "talent fee"?

For many seats at Neyland, the face value is tiny compared to what was paid to UT. I'm sure that's true everywhere, but depending on how schools distribute the load, it may be hard to establish apples to apples.

Kentucky Coach Mark Pope said he instructed his guys to “let Tennessee shoot” the result is like 20% from 3 including 3/18 last night.
He said this after our first game at home. There was a little different approach by both teams last night. He didn't want Chaz Lanier shooting, but Chaz went 0-7.

I doubt he cares if it's true. It fits the narrative he chooses to believe.
This is something that makes me crazy. I was trained to think things through logically. I must check the facts behind statements. Others? They seem to readily accept information as true as long as it conforms to their 'preformed' beliefs.

I understand, but at some point, you have to simplify it to attempt to provide comparisons. But the bottom line is that UT fans are not paying the highest ticket prices. There are quite a few other programs that charge just as much or more for their fans to attend games. People will say anything when they are emotionally upset at a loss.

Is it ok that I'm not in love with pure capitalism? Yes, some of that distaste comes from 'crony capitalism'. Now, give me Capitalism where all boats rise (well, almost all) and sign me up.

Thats pretty much what the tweet is saying. People complain that we are “too spoiled” when we complain about a loss, but we pay top dollar in season tickets, donations, 10% talent fee, we dont like seeing our teams 💩 the bed like they did last night or against uf, and the criticism against the teams is often valid

'Most' SEC teams are, and will continue to crap the bed in this strong conference. It's kind of how basketball works. But, I will say that I'm seeing signs that we won't go very far in the NCAA tournament. Once again, that offense is going to have to be more consistent and productive.

In the last calendar year ('24 Baseball, '24 Football & "24-25 Basketball) we have played 111 games total in what I consider the "big 3" for our men's athletics.

We have won 90 of those games. As a university athletic department, we have won 81% of our games in the last calendar year.

We are incredibly spoiled as a fanbase

Assuming this is based on Baseball, Basketball and Football....not sure I agree.

Vols Football = 9th
Vols Baseball = 1st
Vols Basketball = 5th

No other SEC school finished top 10 in all 3 sports.

Bama = down football year and bad in baseball
Georgia = bad in basketball
Texas = average in baseball in Big 12 (SEC gonna be harder) bad in basketball
