Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Utah state is a top 40 team and they whipped them
We are better than top 40 and we match up well assuming we play well.

Look, we all know Barnes basketball here. None of us are noobs to how any game could go. We could beat the next NC and we could also lose to a hot shooting lower seed.

I am done with the Barnes style of play and NCAA jinx hand wringing though because it is what it is. I will believe we will grind out every win be they close or blowout.

There will be no sweeter story line than ZZ and Barnes when we win it all.

This year we've legit beaten 2 of the teams with the best odds to win. This is the only year under Barnes where I didn't have doubts IF we could win it all. That is a different stance than we will win it all.
There is also no Flagg or Edey in our region that I think poses an impossible matchup for us to make a final four. A player that we can't scheme past. There are always teams and players in March that can take us out but I see none that absolutely will even if we play well.

My stance is Igor HAS to play better for us to make it to final four and beyond. He has to play more confident and he has to stop picking up dumb fouls. We HAVE to rebound better as a team, but IMO that starts with him. We beat a decent Wofford team not rebounding well, but that won't fly as we progress. If Igor can't then Phillips has to take some big steps in this post season to fill his full shoes. Making shots and spreading the floor.

Just win, take care of business no matter how the refs call the game. Great teams overcome all obstacles....

Finally something on the Michigan football computer scandal.

Every article I've seen says the computer crimes were not all aimed at female athletes. "Mostly," "primarily." What it still does not mention is hacking of other football teams.

It would only take one football player target to get access. So of course that wouldn't be the "most" of Michigan's use of the Michigan perv's system. At issue are playbooks, practice videos, game preps, etc. Any football use of the same were also crimes -- if of a (fortunately now for Michigan) less salacious or news-marketable nature.

Question: Is the "sex" sting being used as yet another layer of coverup of what Michigan football was doing by the same means?

Not suprised. In last month UNC lit up top 10 in metrics. Ole Miss is just too inconsistent too. Most of the lower middle half of SEC was inconsisent. Capable of winning, but not consistently. Is anyone here surprised Texas blew a double digit lead or Mizzou didn't show up? Or that UGA was flat footed for too long and lost.
Ole Miss is built on defense and rebounding. I think that translates better to the tournament than Mizzou’s style of play.

March 21, 1980
"Who shot JR?"

The saga of the Texas tycoon Ewings, “Dallas” was epic, ostentatious, outrageous and addictive, with its at-each-other’s-throats clan ruled by J.R. Ewing, a charmingly loathsome oil baron. As embodied by Larry Hagman, J.R. was a bottomless well of corruption who deployed a Lone Star twang, cold hawk eyes and a wicked grin.

By the evening of March 21, 1980, “Dallas” devotees were smitten with his villainy. But then, on that second-season finale, “Dallas” threw them a curve unlike anything witnessed before: J.R. was gunned down by an unknown assailant and left for dead on his office floor.

Thunderstruck fans were left with the awful possibility (and somehow it seemed like a possibility) that the series’ leading man — its main attraction — might have been disposed of. And even more unsettling: They were left in the dark as to who pulled the trigger.

Agreed on Igor. Did he drive once yesterday for a basket? All shots from the three? He's had some huge rebounding games and we need more of that. Yesterday only offense as well, on Lanier stands out to me. But, win and andvance.

One of Saban's players called attention (probably against Saban's desires) to the fact that Saban had banned any Bama player from use of their personal access or passwords to view secret game prep information for the Michigan game. Everything would be viewed from a secure system in the film room under central control. No ipods, etc.

Saban believed that Michigan had already or would soon have hacked Bama by a method that exploited hacks of individual athletes.

I noticed that the Saban-nut-hugger media wasn't interested in following up on the that story.

If a non-basketball story "broke" yesterday during the media frenzy of the opening round of the NCAA tournament, aint nobody got time for a football story? It's not just the importance of the basketball games, but the sheer volume of important games to report on.

Now it's been morphed or misrepresented into being exclusively a sex story, just in time for the women's tournament to kick off. Michigan's football computer crimes don't stand a chance of exposure.

The Lanier offense doesn't bother me because we've had ZZ and Gainey step up when the others faltered. Gainey was a monster against UF. Was a losing effort, but speaks to the team moving past that stand and watch Knecht (Lanier now) mindset we watched happen last year. Offensively and gaurd wise I am 100% confident we match up with the best. Rebounding and post play i am like 60% confident and 100% certain we need to improve.

I wish we had Estrella or Aidoo. Those both hurt bad.
