I don't want Smart, but the plus side is we are already have set up 3-4 concepts on defense. Possibly with the same lingo. Could be a smoother transition.

I just hate having a person that gets along with Saban that covets another SEC job.

I feel like we are limiting ourselves. There so many good candidates out there that I feel like we could at least gauge their interest

Josh Mcdaniels, Todd Haley, Hugh Jackson, Mike Riley, Steve Sarkisian, Pat Fitzgerald, Norm Chow, Raheem Morris, Mike Singletary.

Those would all be great hires IMO, I get that they have no ties or anything to UT. But you can't tell me if TN came knocking with 2-3 mil/yr they wouldn't listen

Not all fans will agree on the new hire, but a Smart hire would be about the most divisive hire that Hart could make.

This is an opportunuty to unite the fan base and get everyone behind a new coach all rooting together in the same page. That means a full Neyland Stadium and flowing donations.

I was just wondering because you keep telling people who it's not going to be (i.e., Smart, Gruden), and I was just curious as to who you thought it would be.

Too many credible people saying Gruden told those close to him he would not take a college job. He will coach but it will be in the league. Smart just makes no sense. The boosters won't get behind it. All my opinion.

I would rather not have another coach from Alabama. The last one, Sunseri, didn't pan out so well. It's like he forgot that there aren't 5 star recruits at every position here.

agreed on both counts. there was fanbase civil war when dooley was hired and there would be the same if smart were hired.

The 3-4 that saban/kirby runs seems to me like a D that will only work if you just have great talent. They don't have those 5 or 6 nfl ready guys this year and their d is getting exposed a little

Doug Matthews said on his radio show today, that his sources have told him that Vince Dooley has been advising Derek Dooley on how to negotiate his resignation and buyout.

We can't hire 3 head coaches :)

The meaning behind it was those 3 guys (Strong, Smart, and Petrino) would all have around the same "interest" and "UT needs met" ratios.
But lets be honest I have no idea along with 100% of everyone else here. We just love UT and are interested in its well being.

What he gonna do, let Tennessee keep some of his buyout money? Dooley is set, nothing Tennessee can do about it.

Jury is still out on Hart. Really starting to question his decision making if Smart's indeed the pick without "due process" so to speak.

Kirby Smart is a business decision to some degree as well. He would likely keep Sunseri on as DC in name only and take over the defense himself. Would save UT some of the buyout money they would owe. Most smart people would look at it as addition by subtraction by taking some of Alabama's defensive staff.
