After BYU, who had 5-5 + everyone lovin’ Pruitt and JG? Anybody?

Honestly, I would have said 2-8/3-7, and that one or both of those guys probably wouldn’t still be here.
After the Bama fiasco? Most of us would have personally put JG on the plane...that wasn’t!

Guys and Gals what an amazing night! My first road game and took my 8 year old daughter. We had awesome seats! We were in the UT section in the first row! After the game the players came over. Brian Maurer, Quavarious Crouch, and Theo Jackson all gave my daughter gloves and towels! We walked out of Kroger with a win AND and 8 y/o who will NEVER forget this experience with our Vols! She hugged me while we were waiting for our Uber and said "Best day ever dad. Thank you so much". I love our program. Several others around us were all cheering and hugging after the stop on 4th down. I really think we turned a corner tonight. As a team, as a staff, and as a fanbase! It's great to be a Tennessee Vol!
Did yall get groceries too?

Was listening to the radio on the way home from a friend's house and they were talking about the playoffs. If LSU, Ohio State, and Clemson win out, they're locks. Some people were talking like Bama was out, but if they win out, how do they not make it? If you have to look at one loss teams, and Bama's only loss is the top team, how would they not make it. I know some people argue about conference champions, but if they've lost to inferior teams, it doesn't much matter to me. I hate Bama as every Tennessee fan does, but logically, it doesn't make sense that anyone would trump Bama in that scenario.

ACC and PAC 12 are weak ass conferences. The Big 12 is mediocre at best. The Big 10 is good, but I still think SEC has proven itself the cream of the crop. Not sure how you could choose a one loss team from any of the other conferences over an SEC team with one loss. Conference championships be damned.
I would prefer that Bama gets screwed. You see I just...Well I hate them . So anything bad that happens to them and their bandwagon fans it makes me happy.

Kentucky post game randoms

  • I'd be remiss if I didn't start this off by giving Guarantano the credit he deserves. We don't win that game without him. You can say what you want about the kid, but we lose MSU, uscjr, and last nights game without his stellar play. Noteworthy because in todays transfer portal society, he could've easily quit on us like others (Ignont, etc) as soon as he lost playing time. Kid stuck it out and has been giving his all for Tennessee.
  • It was a heartwarming moment to see the team flock around JG last night and give him love. Again, say what you want about the kid but he's been through some crap here, but he remains a team guy that does all that's asked, always faces the media, takes accountability, keeps in good spirits etc. He's a likeable player, IMO.
  • Broadcast said we have 63 scholarship players. Is that true? I find that kind of hard to believe.
  • Last night was a hard watch. I knew it would be a factor, playing a tough 6 game stretch (even the UAB game was physical as hell), and catching UK off the bye... but I couldn't wrap my head around how we were unable to stop such a one dimensional, slow developing offensive attack. Each option play felt like it took 8 seconds to get out of the backfield, yet they'd still gain >4 ypc.
  • It was also excrutiatingly painful how our biggest plays were either wiped off the board or went for nothing. Nigel INT from a pick six, to a punt. Granted, it was the right call. Callaways catch before the half (how does the defender not get flagged for ripping his helmet off?), thinking we might get into FG range, to nothing. Fourth down stops torpedoed by penalties. (I don't see how Butler got flagged for his hit)
  • Thank you 8lb 7oz baby Jesus, all wrapped up in your manger, for HT not being seriously injured. That looked bad.
  • Trey Smith... I love you, and I'd never ever say this to your face... but JFC what a dumb, drive killing penalty you took.
  • Callaway just goes up and gets it. He and Jennings have been gold this year. Am I crazy to think we might have the best 1-2 punch at receiver in the league? And by crazy I mean just a big homer?
  • Palmer is ready to take the reigns next year and be a #1. That boy good.
  • Nigel's run through the block and tackle made was incredible. Really hoping someone in the league gives him a chance next year.
  • I posted in the thread how that last Kentucky drive felt like a slow painful death. It felt like after we stopped KY on 4th and got the ball with 8 minutes left that we'd just be able to do like we did against MSU and just run out the clock... but that fumble, plus them slowly "matriculating the ball down the field" (/hankstram) that we were going to suffer a gut wrenching loss. But that goal line stand was reminiscent of the Georgia Tech two point conversion stop. Same guy was in on the play.... Bituli.
  • Before I give DB all the credit for that, needs to be noted that Blakely made the initial hit and DT showed great discipline in keeping with the outside guy taking away the pitch option. Overall a great defensive stop.
  • Which brings up this point - if you're a defender (Oxendine/Baron etc) and you're at that game.... if you see what Ansley and Pruitt and the rest of this staff is able to turn some (no disrespect intended) low ceiling defenders like Blakely, Bumphus, Garland etc into key contributors.... why would you NOT want to come to Tennessee?
  • Which in turn brings up this other point - I almost don't even care which defensive lineman we pick up. I'd love to get the stars and the high composite guys blah blah blah... but Bumphus was a middling three star playing TE last year and has come in and is making plays on the DL. He was flashing all over the field last night and I want to say he has like 4-5 sacks in a rotating role. We're gonna be alright there.

I'm dog tired having stayed up watching the game, then was too excited to fall asleep - only to have to "wake up" at 4am to start a 12 hour shift at 6am. But I'm running off adrenaline right now. It's amazing (or sad?) how I live and die off this team. How they affect my moods. Tennessee wins, and I'm gonna make it through the day tired but with excitement in my head and a smile on my face. Had they lost, I'd be irritable and grumpy all day.

Oh.... and uscjr lost to Appalachian State. Legitimately could end up 4-8. In Muschamps 4th year. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHA

Posted this in a FF thread, but things tend to die in that burg and I don’t want this to be a victim.

Good a place as any for this. During the “lost” 88-89 season, we piled up 6 straight losses and there was no indication that it would stop. Johnny Majors, in what I personally believe to be his greatest coaching performance, went full nuclear option! Fired HOF DC Ken Donahue, replaced him with the RB’s coach Doug Mathews, switched RB’s to corners, linebackers (Shazzon Bradley) to DL etc etc. Won the last 5 games of a season with no chance of a bowl game, INCLUDING the game against Kentucky where we held a 4 POINT LEAD at the goal line in the closing minutes. 4 straight charges at the one yard line...4 stuffs! Of course the very next season started an epic run of Vol success that never truly fizzled until 2005. Defining wins are defining. Character of players need a true test and these guys passed!

Yeah, I was making an argument of logic, not emotion. Emotionally, I love when Bama gets screwed over. Logically, I just don't see how it happens if they win out.

This is awesome! Brought a tear to my eye, as I wish my 9 yr old girl would enjoy football and go to a game with me.

Side note: I think we started turning the corner in the Miss State and Bama games, then fully turned it and started our ascension to the top against SC. We comin’!

“Coach Pruitt, every single day we have meetings, he’s always telling me that he still believes in me, and I thank him every day for that,” Guarantano said, his voice cracking slightly. “There’s a lot of people that don’t believe in me, but as long as those guys in the locker room do and my coaches do, that’s all that matters.” - JG

Dude absolutely earned my respect today. He may be frustrating as hell sometimes but he is the best chance we have at this point and we ALL need to get behind him. If he plays like he did during 90% of this game, we are absolutely going bowling. So let's get healthy and go kick some Tiger ass.

Wow this is trash. What JG is doing for this program right now and your words are “F that guy” about him

Well “F that guy” are the right words needed here but they need to be written on your mirror

Pruitt can coach some defense boys. Oh, and there's this also. DT now leads the league in sacks as well.
Warrior owned that dude in the 4th who tried to block him on the toss or pass out into the flat. Threw the ball carrier down as if the blocker wasn’t even there

Warrior is a smart player. If only he wasnt slow as molasses lol. I think he'll make a damn good coach one day if he decides to go that route.
