Winners and losers from the 2019 Early Signing Day

WINNERS

Tennessee: Jeremy Pruitt and his staff spruced up a class that now ranks No. 15. The big fish on this day is Tyler Baron (112), who was recruited as an outside linebacker. Also joining the fold was Top247 linebacker Len’Neth Whitehead, who the Vols went back and forth with the Gamecocks for. Athlete Jimmy Holiday and his 4.3 speed flipped from TCU and high-upside defensive lineman Reginald Perry announced his intentions as well. Heading into the afternoon the Tennessee coaches are waiting on four-star outside linebacker Morven Joseph to stamp the day. Four-star athlete Jimmy Calloway also signed his letter-of-intent after flirting with several other suitors the last two months. One of the more elusive players in the country he has the traits to be a star receiver for the Vols.

LOSERS

Florida: We thought the Florida Gators could be a big winner of the day with multiple possible flips on the table. Nope. No new commits, either, including the loss of Bloomingdale (Ga.) New Hampstead receiver Sam Brown to West Virginia! This is obviously still a strong class, checking in at No. 8, but the biggest difference between Dan Mullen’s staff and rival Kirby Smart’s at Georgia is the closing power.

Woke up at 7 am today, absolutely excited about signing day, like it was Christmas morning. Then I get a phone call telling my that my wife is in the ER, and everything changed. Didn't care about recruiting, didn't care about football, only cared about getting to the hospital. Things like that put this in perspective. Love on your family, your wife and your children.

Thankfully, it appears that this is nothing serious. I want to thank you guys for praying for my wife and I. We'll see what further tests show, but thus far blood work and ct scan show that everything looks normal. So I am very thankful on this day. Thankful for my wife's health, and thankful for you guys. I don't know your names, but I consider you guys my friends.

Joseph has 22 P5 offers.

He is rated an 89.25, baaarely a 4*.

So:
1) Why do services have him rated as such if so many programs are offering him?

2) Why might so many programs want him with services suggesting his ceiling may be lower?

Are offers outdated? Rankings? Where might some discrepancies come from iyo?

I really like our class. We signed a lot of need positions and added #damndatboyfast Speed to the roster. I believe our staff can develop and get the most out of these kids. Even if we don't add any other recruits, still a solid class IMO. Got our QB of the future and our front 7 is stack for years to come. Would love to somehow get Washington or Hardy or both in February.

I'm sure the staff will stay after Hardy, Burch and others. I'd like to see us land Marcus Henderson outta Memphis to get another OL.


Washington is obviously the #1 target...Beckwith is also I'm sure high on the list. I'd take De'Aree McDonald if he's interested too (waiting until February). Also noticed Darin Turner is signing tomorrow, and we're in the final 5 there.

Some interesting prospects still unsigned though, so that's nice to know we can improve the class even more. Javier Morton, Javon Baker...

Alright, looking at Rivals, here's the total 4 and 5 star players committed right now. I like just simplifying it this way for two reasons. 1) If they're ranked as a four or five star, there's a high probability that they're going to contribute if they stay healthy and on a roster and 2) I think recruiting services ability to rank them to say someone is like 77th versus 120th is bs.

So, just collapsing it this way is like saying, "How many obviously good ballplayers did we just get?"

Considering our past two seasons and how we started this one, it's hard not to like where we're at right now. Florida and Georgia only have two more than us, and if you think about the ground that Florida has to make up with what they lost with the last class, I think we're closing ground on them with quality players. Kentucky is the only other program that's even close to us in the SEC East.

turner is not gonna be part of this class.
