Where some people have trouble is believing that nothing is wrong when you stop someone for no reason but end up finding something illegal (i.e. normally, drugs). The narrative becomes “well, he was breaking the law, so what does it matter?” But this was a stop merely based on race in a certain neighborhood, which is in violation of constitutional rights. This defendant then becomes a “crime statistic” for aggressive (and frankly, illegal) policing. If a white person was in the same position with drugs, there is a greater chance that he doesn’t get stopped and therefore become a statistic. These interactions do happen.

The statistics then grow based on some aggressive policing while others can get away with it. So, yes, the numbers don’t always tell the story.

I am going to be very careful with what I say going forward because I have become cautious with what I say on a public message board. I understand where some people come from. I don’t condone crime (even though it provides income for my family), and I understand there are people here in law enforcement. I will say again that there are many good ones who do a tough job just like I hope people say that there are actually decent attorneys (maybe). Law enforcement and attorneys are two professions that get slammed until the day people realize they need them. I have said it before that I probably have more in common with many people on this board, but my job provides me a different perspective. As I’ve gotten older, my first couple questions on a topic usually are: what should I do as a Christian? And what would I do in their shoes? Sometimes things can change a perspective when you give honest answers.

I know most people are on board with me when I say that I just want a better life for my kids, and I want that life to include peace and justice. We are human, and it won’t be perfect by any means, but we can at least strive for it.

The cause and effect will be debated ad nauseum for generations. The aggressive policing is a self reinforcing symptom of a cultural reality...some people groups are more inclined to violate certain laws. Looking for a cannibal serial killer? Prolly a creepy white dude. Investigating a street killing in a major US city? Most likely not a white guy. Right or wrong, the reality affects the policing. Put another way, if a neighbor dog kills your cat, it's more likely to be Spike the Rotti than FiFi the Pom.

It is reasonable to speak out and demonstrate for fairness, and we all should. But Paul is ultimately spot on in Romans 13:3.

I know it’s not basketball season but I found this very interesting and informative for the people who are curious how much It is To attend college at UT....Florida,Georgetown And Vandy are outrageous.sheesh.

Congratulations Bobby maze in making the university proud and sending us some future stars.keep up the good work and guidance for these young kiddos.

Still wish we had given Ques some love. Maybe just being a Bearden homer, but he really stepped up SR year and I think was more wanted than Pember by the end.

Cost at Georgetown and Vandy...private schools...not too much a surprise. Florida needs to show their math. I'm sure that helps them with their COA stipends to players too. Gainesville is terrible. If anything, students should get a discount to live in that SH.

@Devo182 finally someone on this board who agrees with me on this..I wanted Quez off of his ball handling skills alone and we needed a true point guard very badly after Bone declared.Vescovi is slow and should be on the wing as a shooter because he’s the best one we have in my opinion that’s consistent.Everyone on here said Quez wasn’t a take because he was too small which is blasphemy..he was top 5 in scoring coming off the bench for the gators and I think he would have started here just because of his incredible handling skills.

Sure, I get that. But the best thing about college sports are the personal tie to a school and its traditions - whether you went to the school or grew up nearby.

I’m not a Vol fan because they win every Saturday (obviously!). I’m a Vol fan because I’m a Tennessean.

Honestly, his argument is a better reason to take the game than not. If UT loses a road game against a team that made the CFP last season in Pruitt's 3rd year, no one will hold it against the team or Pruitt. And since it's non-conference it doesn't impact UT's chances at the SEC East at all. If they win then it's off to the races in 2020 as the team will build confidence. Really, nothing but upside to this game.

Exactly. Great test to measure where the team is before heading into SEC play.

I don't buy the thought that OU will be some shaky team. They have play makers on offense, and a great offensively-minded HC, that will really challenge our defense a ton. Fully except them to win the Big 12 this year. Defense I think could be ana issue for them, but I didn't watch them much last year to know.
