I don’t believe Chaney has the QB to allow him to do that.
Big Jim went to Pruitt and told him he cut the playbook in half so that Bailey or maurer wouldn’t be over their head. Pruitt said ok and then still trotted 2 out there. We should get a go fund me going to get Jeremy a CAT scan. Something ain’t right upstairs

I’d rather have Tee at this point. At least he’d care and I’m sure he’s sick to his stomach at how the last 3 games have gone
Not sure how much merely "caring" makes a difference when it comes to coaching. It doesn't improve development, scheme, or decision-making. Bob from Sweetwater could spend 130 hours a week coaching and what would it matter? It only improves effort/work-ethic and I have heard ZERO instances/reports of CJP having anything below an elite work ethic and level of effort. Same went for Butch...sigh.

Working hard doesn't mean you work smarter or better or have the right plan/vision, nor can execute it. I'd guess just about every P5 coach works insanely hard. That isn't where major competitive advantages are found at this level.

Even when stories circulated about us preparing for UGA since the Summer (heard the same about UF in 2019)...kind of rolled my eyes. Preparing only does so much and there are steeply diminishing returns at some point (yes sufficient preparation for ANY game is still important) but there is also "analysis paralysis". One can overthink things too.

Trey Smith is a given, but that ain’t happening.

Which other seniors would you welcome back to the team next season?

Anyone?
Honestly, as long as Pruitt is staying, I just want to get to where it is only his guys in the program. Then, there will be no excuses. I know there are a few outliers, like Trey, Brent, Palmer, and Brandon, but I just want to rinse the program completely of Butch.

He’s just a dumb red neck. I was fine with that as long as he was going to be a great football coach...

Coach Majors came to Tennessee when Tennessee was as bad as it was when Coach Pruitt took over. It took CJM 6 seasons to beat Bear Bryant. Bear then retired.

I think that it’s only going to take Coach Pruitt 4 times and next year after we win, Saban will announce his retirement at the end of the season.

Just a little VFL optimism.
Oh, and we will win every remaining game this season.

Really?

Alabama’s offense is the biggest reason their defense has taken a hit. They play a different game now.
What does their offense have to do with anything? Can't say they are tired, because H1 defense has regressed a bunch too. Talking efficiency, not just total numers (obviously there is more tempo and more plays ran in general these days). They are simply playing worse play for play...early, late, whenever.

Where did you hear this, or you just guessing?

Just what the doctor ordered.

And by year 5 we went winless in the SEC.

We’re better off bc we’re bringing in more and more SEC caliber players. If Pruitt can’t get it rolling in the next couple seasons, we’re gonna be a in a pretty good spot roster wise for the next HC.
Want to believe this, but this was the very common belief under Butch. Instead, the lack of S&C and culture tanked everything and we were as bad or worse off than 5 years before.

Not that this is what would happen again, just that I'm not as sure in "building continuity" always working, as maybe I did before.

Does Chaney have 1 main playbook? Pretty sure it is vastly different for each guy. He's flexible to his players. You'll see one style for shrout, hb, jg and a totally different one for Maurer.

He's not a "system" guy so there isn't necessarily a single playbook he expands or contracts afaik. This isn't like Butch running the same read-option for every qb whether they could run or not. You don't see Maurer throwing a bunch of backshoulders or the other 3 in designed runs or read options.

A day later and I still feel pretty deflated.

Jeremy Pruitt is going to be a good head coach. I could see him winning National Championships. But right now, he isn't. Right now he's still learning. As much as I like him, I think we may have made a mistake in asking a first time coach to undertake this rebuild. Because make no mistake about it, we're still feeling the effects of Butch. All of our upperclassmen are his guys or his recruits - and they're not cutting it. To make matters worse, we have a first time head coach who is learning how to handle everything.

Pruitt has come from a number of programs who each, respectively, were loaded with talent. Enough to basically overwhelm opponents most Saturdays. At Tennessee, he doesn't have that advantage. Not even close.

For me, the thing that frustrates me the most about him is his personnel decision making. I hate the constant shuffling of positions. I hate his reluctance to play some younger guys, which, ironically - he was never shy to do prior to this year. I mean, sure, I get the you have to earn it in practice mentality - but when your regulars are not at all effective on gameday, week after week, then isn't it time to switch it up?

Shamburger is terrible at nickel. I'm pretty sure Lawrence or Slaughter or any hell Tyus Fields could do just as "good" there. And at least they'd be getting valuable reps to grow. Most of our Dlineman are just blue collar try hards who make no positive impact in the game. Try something else.

Crouch doesn't feel like a linebacker. Banks didn't either when healthy. Is French and Eason that bad they can't get some looks?

I don't know.... I try to temper my expectations because I knew the rebuild would take YEARS, it didn't help that the first ESD was right after he was hired and then in year three, we had the pandemic where Knoxville had much stricter restrictions than other SEC teams. Pruitts first real class are only sophomores. I guess I shouldn't really pass judgement until next season. But this has been a hard year. It is tiresome seeing us get completely rolled by teams.

Also - what **** sense did it make rolling Mauer out there just to hand off repeatedly. Give him a few throws just to see if he's making any better reads.

Ahhhhhh..... it is so hard being a Tennessee Volunteers fan anymore.
I'll take a stab at putting Maurer out there and just letting him hand off to the RB. If he was successful throwing the ball, it would have just created more controversy with the QB talk. This way we'll never know if he would have been successful throwing the ball. Just my guess.
