Same thing here. My oldest just turned 16 and I've got a 13 yr old too. I tell them all the time "hang on boys, we're going to be good again". They think I'm full of crap. Both of them like the Vols but they're not into it like I was at their age. My sister has 4 kids and only 1 likes the Big Orange. It's depressing.Since we’re talking fandom and generations...
I was born in the mid 70s and remember watching Vols games on a black and white TV with my dad - sound turned down so we could listen to John Ward call the game on the radio.
I remember being excited that we won the championship in the ‘98 season, but also distinctly recall thinking that wasn’t all that extraordinary- we had just won some SEC championships, and the future promised many more opportunities for trophies.
Now my oldest is 14 and she has inherited the Orange blood. She watches every game with me. But, think about this - other than flirting with a good season in 2016, she has never seen a great Vols season (she was 1 in ‘07 so that doesn’t register).
I don’t know how much longer I can convince her (or me for that matter) that a Vols return to prominence is likely
*We need to hire Freeze soon or we'll lose a whole generation of VOL fans. Come on Phil, do it for the children
