Recruiting Forum Football Talk II

The bottom line comes down to what is acceptable at the University of Tennessee. There are a lot of losers who love losing in this fan base and in this board and give every excuse for retaining Pruitt.

Setting a standard for a coach if they go 2-8, 3-7, or 4-8 (in a normal year) that they won’t be coaching at Tennessee should not be controversial. Take that record to Mizzou, Vandy, or USCjr, but that doesn’t fly in Knoxville.
“In a normal year.”

Niedermeyer’s experience coaching was at linebacker. He had zero experience on the offensive side. This time last year, the clamor from the fans and on here was to hire RECRUITERS. Going all in one way or the other is a bitter life lesson. Doubt Pruitt caved in but maybe it influenced his hiring process.
You never hire recruiters at schools like TN. It never works. Anyone can get good players here.

I know you just posted an update but wanted to let you know I'm thinking about you and your wife. Hope things are going well.

P.S. Months ago I followed your advice and started taking immune supplements. Appreciate the heads up.
I thank God I started on them, I don't think my immune system prior to this would have done so well.

And now the rest of the story...
Fun fact: If that booster hadn't leaked the Brohm to UT story to Hyams, he'd be UT's coach today. Brohm's agent agreed to a contract, but it had to stay confidential until he returned from a recruiting visit. The booster, who was going to cut a check for Brohm's buyout, leaked it to Jimmy, who reported it while Brohm was in a high school coach's office to visit with a junior QB. Saw the report, denied it was true to the kid, instructed his agent to back out.
I would dare to say we would have beat GaSt if Brohm had been our coach.

I think this is exactly the problem. I’m not sure what exactly @Atlanta VOL speaks of when he says not everyone is on the same page, but somehow it affects the entire program including the ability of coaches to coach. Coach after coach comes in here and fails. The problems of this program extend much higher than the HC, IMO. And no, I’m not saying Pruitt should remain our HC. I doubt he succeeds. Just too many red flags. I sure hope he does though, because I think we are doomed for a very long time if he doesn’t.
Naw. It’s an excuse for losing. The administration doesn’t coach the games. Coaches picked their coaches to coach. They just weren’t good at doing their jobs. Who else would have hired a losing record Dooley? Who else wanted Brian Kelly made coach Butch? Was Pruitt really a hot commodity for a head coach position? We just hired bad head coaches. That is all.

Tennessee has a loaded ‘22 class (for TN standards).

Simpson, Nolan, James, Hayden, Keaton, Horton etc

Missing is a dominant pass rusher or corner. Otherwise I like the in state class.
Great class. This is why we either need to let Pruitt go and get a proven head coach or pray he figures it out for next year. Either way, this is a class we cannot miss.

The closer the recruits reside means the more they hear the “I am done until freeze is hired talk”.

It’s why the social media talk of such is hurtful to the prgrams future with or without Pruitt or freeze

I’ve posted something similar from what I’d heard. Jimmy’s source was good. Too good.

I’ve heard Will West (Jimmy’s co-worker at WNML) say it wasn’t just that the news leaked - it was that we were still haggling on the buyout when it leaked. We pissed him off by initially suggesting he pay his Purdue buyout.

Makes me wonder if we could go back to Brohm or if the way it fell apart alienated both sides.

We’re likely making a coaching change next year when they’re about to sign. I admittedly don’t know how loaded the class is compared to other years, but if true, that’s even more reason to make a move this season.

Here is a question I’ll pose to the board. Fulmer has a difficult line to toe.

1. He has to manage finances. We must face it. We don’t have a lot. But with fans not excited will anyone show next year? Would you lose 12-16 million anyway? of keep him then basically have no buyouts on books after next year.

2. How can he support his current coach while not hitching his wagon too much to him? If he does too much then he is gone.

All I know if Fulmer is praying we don’t lose to Vandy. (We all know that girl will hit from 45 to win as time expires)

Re: finances, isn't it mostly a wash too when you consider new hires and their buyouts? It sounds like most people are saying "yeah, he's absolutely not the guy, but not sure if we let him go this year" because of X, Y, and Z.

Compare that to Auburn who fired Chizik a mere 2 years after winning a friggin national title for going 3-9. Or to Florida who fired McElwain after a 4 win season despite winning the East the prior 2 years. Those programs are committed to winning.

UT has been milking the fanbase for the past decade and have been incredibly cheap and short-sighted on HC hires. I truly believe apathy is at an all time high. Why would any fan trust the administration at this point? It's amazing how competency and committing to win leads to more financial success and an engaged fanbase. They're in a hole that they've dug themselves honestly. The fanbase has been incredible after fielding one competitive team since 2008 with loads of **** in between.

Brohm is interesting for sure. Like his concepts on offense but really has been mediocre at Purdue. 4 wins last year

That isnt a name that illicits ANY thoughts of championships at any point in near future. it illicits ship stabilization & mediocrity for years to come

I’ve watched the Vandy “kicker” on the local news.

Yeah she ain’t playing
Do you think this is a PR move? I saw a couple of kicks from her, and although it did not show where they went, they look terrible the short distance you could see them after coming off of her foot.

IF Freeze waits on this job until JP is fired after or during next season...it is going to be sad and hilarious watching all you salivators turn on him when he inevitably struggles.

I hope whatever happens, that at some point we can have a good, solid program again.
This is more catbone than catbone. C’mon McGill.

IF Freeze were to struggle here, at least we can say the administration gave it a shot with a coach who has proven he can win wherever he’s been, including the SEC.

I know! We suck! Pruitt sucks! Fulmer sucks! Recruiting sucks! We’re never going to sign good players ever again. Doom and gloom!!!!!
Do you think that you whining about other people whining makes you better than the initial whiners?

Because it doesn’t. Just a different annoyance and drag on the board.

Like always, in true Tennessee fashion, we screw up what would’ve been a solid hire most likely. You just can’t make this stuff up.

I haven't saw @Glitch post in a while and was looking for the last time he was on VN, it happened to be in the GA game thread. I hope he's alright, he's one of my favorite posters.

*Since I was in the Ga thread and kind of bored, I wanted to go back and see if that 3rd quarter was as bad as I remember. I started around page 65 and read from there (I stopped at page 90). It's amazing how quickly it went downhill in the 2nd half and how the season has unravelled since. I still don't understand why Pruitt didn't bench JG during that game.

After everything that happened last season, I was certain going into this season that Pruitt would have no problem benching JG for series or even games. I also expected JG to be on a short leash because I was confident Pruitt had the chutzpah to bench his starter if said starter wasn’t performing. Boy was I wrong.
