Not overthinking at all. It's gaining a small advantage. Playing for OT is just playing for another 50/50 situation.

In this specific game UF defense was GASSED. Playing for the win made sense.

Think it's beyond dumb to put yourself in a position to have to make a 2 point conversion to just force OT. If you don't want to play for OT, ya kick the PAT the first time then worry about going for 2 if you score again.

We have simultaneous rumors that Fulmer is ride or die for Jeremy Pruitt, and that Fulmer is leaking compliance investigations to get Pruitt fired for cause.

At this point, I find the second one way more believable.

The decision makers in Knoxville needed to watch tonight. Tape their eyelids open so they couldn’t miss a snap. You don’t win in college football with defense anymore. You have to go and find someone who can put a lot of points on the board. Period.

It’s really simple.
If you plan to play for the win anyway and you go for 2 the first TD

That way if you don’t make it you at least have a fall back option to get it into to OT. If you do make it you win the game on the next TD

Fulmer’s legacy at UT has to be fairly mixed at this point, no?

Yes, he won a national title, but not only let the program slip in his final years but made a disastrous coaching hire over a decade later that could very well lead to significant NCAA penalties.

Defense these days is about holding teams to FGs in the red zone and creating turnovers. It isn’t about preventing yards. The coaches themselves even admit this now, even guys like Saban.
