How is he that much different? He did decent a Florida Atlantic but nothing other worldly....... he even had a 5 win season in year two....he had all kinds of issues with Saban leading up to the national championship game after he accepted the FAU job.
He literally won at historic records at FAU. Now I’m not saying that means he’s greatest coach in world but he literally walked into FAU and won more games in 3 seasons than the 8 seasons before he was there. All while the most wins in any of those 8 seasons were 6.
Also, he was the guy who Saban hired to overhaul Saban’s approach to offenses and scheme. I don’t think the excuse of “if he’s good enough for Saban, he should be good enough for us” is an excuse worth anything. We’ve seen that with countless Saban assistants who go off on their own and fail. However, Saban changed and adapted to the new way of college football and offenses. He hired Kiffin of all people to do it and had great success.
There’s not W/L record that can be attributed to him being the guy that ushered in Saban’s adaptation to the game, but it’s clear there was no reason outside of that why Saban would hire the guy.
What he did at FAU was a miracle of its own given the above I mentioned on his 3 seasons vs the 8 seasons (two full recruiting cycles) before him.
Kiffin is gonna be thorn in the side of a lot of SEC teams. I just don’t understand why people are so out on him if we are gonna be seeing him every year light people up in the same conference.
Outside of his X and O’s, he’s an arrogant prick and I deep down believe he wants to be the guy to take out Saban. He can have a win here and there vs him but Ole Miss won’t become a perennial contender down the road. They just don’t have infrastructure. It’s very rare to find coaches out there that are public about their cockiness of “I want to be the guy that takes down Saban” or “we aren’t losing to Georgia as long as I’m coach”.....
When is last time we had a coach that generated energy for stating their intentions and where they want to take a program? Saying “every coach is judged on Bama, Florida, and Georgia” isn’t the same as “we’re gonna be singing Rocky Top down in Gainesville after the game. Lets get to work”
