Unless you're planning on rolling the dice with another risky hire, you're going to have to spend much more than that. Probably $6mil
I tend to believe in consistency among coaching lists - if someone is repeated over and over, it's likely to be a solid pick as a legitimate candidate. Dooley in 2010 and Schiano in 2017 come to mind.
After pouring over all the lists, there are two consistent names as both realistic and near the top: Kevin Steele and Jamey Chadwell.
There are others down the list a bit, and I weigh Hyams, VQ and Feldman a little more heavily than others: Bill Clark, Lance Leipold and Will Healy.
This job is not going to be highly coveted - if a coach at a G5 program thinks he will get a better opportunity by waiting a year or two, they will do it.
Bill Clark turned down Auburn once they mandated he keep Kevin Steele - so for that reason I have a hard time believing he'd take the chance here.
Steele, Chadwell and Healy see this as the dream job. Leipold likely will never get another chance if he wants to test his mettle in the SEC. I think the hire will be one of them.
I dont know how much truth there is to it, but when he was brought up for Auburn a lot of their fans didn't want him, not for football reasons, but that he is supposedly a huge Bama fan. He would steer his players away from Auburn and have them do things like burn offer letters. Thats just what I read on their board. For those mentioning Bill Clark. Yes, he seems to be a really good football coach, BUT he's was born and raised in Alabama. He's almost primarily coached in the state of Alabama, including a stint at Tuscaloosa County HS. Went to college at Jacksonville State in Alabama. I can just about guarantee he's a Bama fan and if he succeeded here would probably be in consideration to go coach at Alabama. Do yall really want another gump here? Just saying
Not a Harry Potter guy but wife read the books. We went to Universal and while waiting for the ride, I asked questions about the stuff they displayed. One of which was the fat lady. I asked my wife why people are taking pictures with her and these two nerdy chicks in robes turned around and in a condenscending way tells me who it was and that a "muggle like you wouldn't understand". So... Naturally, I laughed and asked "wtf is a muggle?" they turned and said "nonmagic folk, again.. Like you"The right fit is important, so here's what we do. We call in our top candidates, have them put on the sorting hat and see who's the most Slytherin.
Yep, it was pretty obvious to me in the way he answered the questions about helping in the coming searches. It was a little awkward. No way Fulmer wanted to go. He would have superglued his butt to the chair if he thought that would've kept him there. He was forced out, and it was handled how it was handled.
Basilio just said when everything comes out...... we are all going to be mad at Fulmer
Risk goes down the more you spend, typically. The assistant coach hires will be tricky but you have most of them on staff already just need what, 3?Not all are risky. I would like to believe that the Admin learn their lesson and Fulmer was the cause for some of that 12 mil Pruitt now isn't going to get. So you let Steele hire coaches for next year and then hire another coach that wants to bring in his own staff? Not sure what assistants would want to come knowing that they could be out the door the next year. But we all have our ideas and opinions. When you think about there are different risk levels on any coach you hire but they all are a risk to a certain point.
He definitely is a possibility. I think he would come back if asked, but boosters are split on him. Some despise him and some love him.
Serious question, why would we consider Healy?I tend to believe in consistency among coaching lists - if someone is repeated over and over, it's likely to be a solid pick as a legitimate candidate. Dooley in 2010 and Schiano in 2017 come to mind.

And then reminded them they, too, aren't magical.
If you're having to say "tell me more about...I dont know anything" about a candidate then they aren't right for our program right now. We cannot screw this one up or it will be a death blow. We are on life support right now.Of course Steele is realistic...nobody else wanted him for their head coaching position including the school he has been one of the top DC's at for a long time. So you fire a DC to hire another DC?? Get an offensive guy...this isn't the 90's anymore. You don't win scoring 20 points a game.
Tell me about Leipold...I don't know anything about him.
