It will be really funny if Steele does decently well as interim. I'm not super jazzed about him, but trying to equate his performance at Baylor 20 years ago to the current place and time is silly. Obviously some AU booster types were willing to burn their place down to make him head coach, so somebody believes he had a role in AU's success and would perform better than Gus. I have no clue if he will, but given how broadly it is assumed he will fail here, it'll be fun to watch if he starts winning games.

I'm not so sure about that. I think some AU booster types (specifically Yella Fella and potentially Harbert) were sick of Gus, and they wanted to give the job to Steele because they are buddies with him.

He definitely had a hand in Auburn's success, but I don't think he would have been a good coach there or here.

Serious question: why isn’t mark stoops a candidate?

UK scored 21.8 ppg. For reference of just how bad that is, UT who was AWFUL on offense, scored 21.5 ppg.

UK averaged 121.5 pass yds per game. Last in SEC by a long shot, and worse than Vanderbilt.

UK averaged 318 yards per game. Last in the SEC, worse than Vanderbilt.

Stoops ability to find and develop a QB is equal to that of Pruitt.

Why would he be a candidate?

Ah, screw it, just let Steele be the guy - get this mess over with.

Let him hire a new OC or let Chaney do his thing 100% on his own.

Hire a DC you like or keep ansley and roll.

Manage the coaches.

If Steele ends up as HC , you cant slam the door shut on this program. Better buy a lot of black curtains to go around Neyland. Fulmer hired Steele and had plans on making him HC, probably another reason Fulmer was forced out.

Over the past 2-3 hires I would certainly agree with you here, but the optics on this one are completely different... our Admin is reading, seeing, and knows what is going on with fans and the media right now. It's been made mention from several reliable people that we cannot hire another project and won't. I choose the believe that and chose to believe Pruitt was getting fired. Honestly didn't see the Fulmer thing coming. Bringing in a new AD just to hire Steele or a Meh is not in the cards this time.

Any coach that comes in and has HC experience, is ready to recruit, hires an experienced staff and lets them do their job, tries to get along with the AD and Admin, and is open to suggestions and ways to improve and grow the program, is gonna always be better than what we just got rid of.

JP was in over his head, was a bully and hard to work with, acted like he was Saban without the resume, micro-managed his staff, was a hot head and fired people off the cuff, hired his buddies and not what was best for the team or program, refused to follow through with all his coaching duties and let Fulmer handle them and coddle him... Regressed our team, players, and our Defense in year 3, poorly developing talent along the way.

Based on this, I choose to believe this team and program will be in a better place moving forward once we clear the infractions. Will we get a Filet? Maybe, maybe not, but we will certainly get better than the 'Ole Roy we've been getting served for the past 3yrs...
You are going to get an experienced, seasoned, safe coach. You can take guesses on who that will be but I would venture unless you're satisfied with a Marrone type (not saying it's him specifically) hire you're likely going to be unhappy.

As much as you say the admin is reading the room they have also made it clear they plan to avoid risk and signaled a "safe hire" was coming. When a group of people who are risk averse by nature signal their further propensity to be risk averse a conservative hire is all but assured.

Maybe the AD forces a "sexy" hire. I don't know, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Fulmer who had Steele as his 2nd choice behind egg man is leaving, we don't even have an AD yet who Plowman said will make the final coaching decision, but because Jimmy Hyams' tweet is vague yall are ready to actually kill yourself. What a weird use of time, go outside, let the process play out.

In your joygasm due to Pruitt getting backstabbed and ruined...Have you really forgotten that those dirty m'fers are to thank for Hamilton, Hart and Currie, and Kiffin, Doofus and Botch...plus tried to force Schiano down our throat?

How easy it is to forget when consumed by bloodlust..

Haslam has become a bit of a boogeyman, and some of that is warranted. Pretty sure Dooley and Fulmer over Blackburn is on others though.
