New Lincoln Riley Contract Details Have Been Revealed

Lincoln Riley contract: OU football coach would owe school about $4.6 million if he leaves for NFL after 2019 season

Edit: I texted an OU friend that the board was speculating on Riley's buyout and this is what he sent back.

2nd Edit: These are Okie media sources I believe.

Looking at the numbers on the article I linked, I wonder if he got extended since these articles were written? Or, I wonder if the $30m is what he'd be owed if he were fired, not what he'd owe if he left? Am I just reading it wrong?

No doubt it’s Happened at auburn

Most would consider the boosters on the Plains out of control and unhealthy. I would
Its the name of the game. You want my money, I get a say, why else would I invest blindly? We hadn't had an AD in years, obvious locker room issues and a team that was trending backwards. It had to happen.

All that to get back on my original point. Get a coach the fans believe in and they will be more patient. Few if any believed in Pruitt and he kept confirming those doubts with idiot moves.

As a UCF grad I'm so torn by this. Haha I hate to lose him at UCF but as a lifelong Tennessee fan this is an incredible homerun hire. And how fast it happened makes it even more incredible. Every hire White has made as AD at both Buffalo and UCF, in basketball and football, have been objectively great hires and have all had more success than expected.

Yep he made a move to a place that he can’t recruit consistently to his scheme. It wasn’t the right move. You see bits and pieces where his imprint is showing as some of them boys will lay a damn lick in that Nebraska defense. He just can’t get the guys he needs there. He should consider a business decision and move where he can get the athlete he needs again.

The gotta jump back to the Big 12. Those Texas boys they used to recruit don't watch Big 10 football.

No doubt a likable coach would help
If it’s Lane the fan base wouldn’t be patient with him at all. They would turn on him in a heartbeat

I think the annual salary numbers reconcile. Maybe the distinction is "school" buy-out vs. "coach" buy-out.

Edit: I believe that's what you suggested.

I don’t think he regrets the decision but I think when he looks back, he’s going to 2nd guess if he had factored in the landscape change.
Still, he is loved there and loves it there.
