No planes flew anywhere today. No new offers were made. We have the same primary target. I still don’t know who that is, unfortunately. I realize everyone will turn on me soon, if I can’t get a name. Kudos to White for getting everyone to behave. Of the names the media has mentioned, Elliot and Fleck are backup plans. Others mentioned are just air. My friend said that every candidate has been asked to provide a sample staffing plan, recruiting territory plan, and vision for the program. The primary candidate is not a Sexton client, and has asked to be walked through NCAA exposure. If we move down the list, their will be a letdown among the boosters. They’re all very confident that they have a bulletproof plan. If we miss, I’m sure White will find a good fit. It just may not be the big fish they believe we’ve already landed.
I think your first point is a really good point. And one I will admit I am reluctant to admit. This hire we are about to make needs to be able to install a winning culture and family atmosphere. We also need to get rid of the toxicity around the program. Unless its someone like Matt Campbell or another superstar the next hire is most likely capped at 8-9 wins. Now this is where I disagree with Bruin, the second hire is the hot shot you get and watch this program take off like a rocket ship. But this hire we are about to make needs to mother goose the program through its youth and teenage years before it takes flight and runs as an adult. Two things we all need to remember:
1. It's almost a guarantee the next guy is gonna get fired, whether it's in 3 years, 5 years, 7 years, etc. He's eventually gonna get shitcanned for not winning enough games. Yes, on a long enough timeline, even Lane Kiffin is almost a surefire bet to get fired with the fans hating his guts by his last season or two.
2. We aren't getting someone without some blemishes. Thankfully, we will likely get someone with a lot of upside who isn't a McGoogle, but we aren't getting a guy who is just an all around perfect hire. We've hashed out why everyone sucks at this point, and whoever the hire is will be someone that a vocal contingent of fans absolutely hate and will be convinced will fail from day one.
Anyone with a brain understands why this fan base is negative. We’ve watched admin after admin hire crap coach after crap coach. Give us a winning coach and we become the best fan base in college sports and it’s really that simple.
I can’t believe DW didn’t want to meet with leadership team from Volnation to make sure he got someone we approve of.
No on Sciano. I thought Miles might have been a good stabilizing hire. I knew going a first time head coach was doomed. Honestly, I've tried to forget that whole span of time.
