The only knock on Campbell that I can see, is just like he wins big games he's not supposed to win ... he drops games to teams he should beat.
I don't know if he's not getting them ready to play for lesser games, if the team plays down to the level of the competition, or what.
I'd love the hire tho.

His team is all two and three stars. He wrings every drop of results out of the talent he is able to get to ISU. He is the guy that consistently does much more with much less.

Gonna play with a theory here.

Danny White could have a relationship from who knows where with a coach like Matt Campbell that nobody else knows about. Maybe they go way back and had already talked about possibly working together someday. He had one name he apparently mentioned in his interview. I keep coming back to Campbell. He's the only one that makes sense that you make that huge offer for. His age is perfect. He's a builder. Laid a foundation at a program on terrible times. Campbell's values align with what White said he envisioned for his coach.

He would never have been able to get Campbell (or whoever I'm guessing he named) to join him at UCF. The name was too big for the job. But he came here because he likely knew he had a great shot to finally lure his coach.

Campbell makes sense. He's loyal as hell to Iowa State. I'm guessing that means a lot to White. That's a great quality in a coach. If he comes here he will be loyal to Tennessee too.

That Johnny Majors comment he made kinda gave me chills earlier.

I'm trying hard not to get my hopes too high and I'm currently failing.

We can't go by the $8m figure and say Campbell isn't worth that or this coach isn't worth that so it can't be them since we are obviously having to overpay due to our current ncaa situation.

Agree and it is even more than just current ncaa stuff. LA has stated we've had to overpay for years because we simply are viewed as toxic and not all that great of a job recently...now we are doubling down on all that. We absolutely have to overpay in a huge way. $6-8mm could be our range for a whole host of 2nd or even 3rd tier options.

One of the lawsuits filed against Jimmy Frank was by a former player who escalated a fistfight by pulling a knife:

"Allegations of Humphries’ fight with former Penn State linebacker Micah Parsons first became public in October, when Humphries’ attorney Steve Marino filed a third version of the lawsuit against the university, Franklin and former defensive tackle Damion Barber.

The March 2018 altercation began after Parsons poured water onto a sleeping Humphries, who responded by throwing a Gatorade bottle at Parsons, Marino wrote.

Parsons was accused of punching and choking Humphries before the latter pulled out a pocket knife to stop the fight. Humphries met with Franklin hours later to discuss the fight, Marino wrote.

Humphries claimed Franklin told him to “fistfight and take a beating, rather than brandish a weapon.” The two met two days later, when Humphries claimed Franklin told him “you should have just gotten your ass beat and not pulled a knife.”

I do agree, somewhat, with the perspective of telling a guy not to bring a knife to a fistfight.

Without having any add’l context, this sounds a little bit like a player who got his feelings hurt and allowed mom & dad to involve a lawyer in what should’ve been a team-internal situation.
