To me there is only two options at this point:

1. We have our coach and there is reason we are waiting to disclose who that is due to preference by one/both sides

2. We have not offered anyone and therefore there is literally nothing to report.

That AP update is hilarious. No way it’s actual real information. I mean...

- We know White met in Atlanta with some folks but don’t know who. But names that “pop up” are Sonny Dykes and Elliott. Lol what.

- There were in deep talks with James Franklin but he’s staying at PSU because of locker room upgrades. 😂 what?!

- Oh and White better not take Steele for granted because that will hurt his feelings and he’ll go elsewhere.

Is this real life? That has to be 100% made up nonsense. Not a chance AP knows anything relevant to this coaching search.
Turned down over locker room renovations that were announced in 2019.

Not making a run at freeze if all this missing is true... they don’t want to win. If we are actually
Offering legit money and being told no, then you lower the moral standards bar and get a rehabilitated freeze and spin that. The entire college football community is going to know we are dead if they trot out another coordinator. We are the only
Ones too stupid to realize it.

I’m going to give you my best read on this based on a good deal of inference. Im not getting this from my friend or his sources, but I’m connecting dots. I think we made a big offer to Franklin or Campbell last night. I think it got very close, but probably didn’t happen. That deal has been in the works for weeks. I believe it failed due to investigation.

I believe they flew to a neutral location today, met three candidates, and settled on one.

My friend has talked about Elliot and his relationships to players and coaches here since we hired DW. I think DW has a high degree of comfort with him. That said, I think boosters and and chancellor prefer an HC. That may have pushed us to choice 3.

I believe my friend that we have a deal. I believe we missed on 1. I genuinely hope it’s 2, and they bent to let him hire a coordinator. If we get to 3, I don’t like the choice I’ve heard, but they are current HC’s.
This is all conjecture."

First, I'm skeptical on all of this. But I will say this - this isn't the way it works. DW does not appear to be the kind of guy that takes a job and then gets pushed around and told not to hire the guy he wants, particularly given his track record. If this is how it played out, if I'm DW, I'm on a plane back to Orlando to take my old job back and forget the whole thing. (and yes UCF would take him back no questions asked). Further, DW never takes the UT AD job without it being understood upfront that he's calling the shot on who gets selected - yes, Boosters and Plowman have say in the contract and that can affect the outcome. But this silliness about them being a HC or not, would not be something DW would cave to. This is all nonsense.

If we go by our insiders and what they have said, that means Dykes would have been one of our top 2 choices and we would have been in talks with him for weeks.

Do we believe that? And where did all the Dykes talk start at?

Here's a nice highlight of Dykes first year at Cal - In Dykes' first season, the California defense surrendered the most passing yards in Division 1 college football history, leading to it becoming the worst defense in the nation.[
They gave up like 750 yards in one game, an NCAA record.

We may be in some big trouble if Elliott turns us down.
They better roll with Steele before hiring another coordinator. One year deal and re group next year. One season and recruiting class is not worth our permanent demise. This is the last chance to get off the laughing stock of college football Groundhog Day.
