I would take Mario Cristobal in a heartbeat and not think twice. Mario can flat out recruit with the best of them and has a recruiting pipeline to South Florida and would also solve our OL problems too as one of the best OL coaches in the nation for input and Knoxville is whole a lot closer to home in Miami to see his parents and brother Lou and family then Oregon. And you talk to Bama people, his name comes up as the replacement for Saban when the time comes along with Dabo of course.

I will venture out to say he would love to get closer to home Miami to his parents and brother and family in Miami and the weather. Maybe I'm wrong but I just can't picture a Cuban American being happy on the West Coast and definitely no Cuban food out in Oregon. Lol You couldn't pay me enough to live in Oregon but I guess each their own!!

Pretty sure we all said they knew nothing during the last search, and we all know how that ended. It's much more fun to believe the insiders that tell us what we want to hear, than to believe what the credible (mostly) reporters are telling us.

I hope I'm wrong, but feels just like the last search.

I'll stay optimistic, but my cup is on.

Go Vols!

Serious question for a second - are private donor dollars indeed allowed to pay coaches?

I hear we have fully-private funding of 200-300 million for Neyland renovations. How could we not take, say, $100 million and guarantee it toward the next coach for the next decade? The university pays $5 million and private funding up to $10 million a year. You could offer absolutely anyone $15mm a year and you wouldn't get past candidate #5. Saban...Dabo...Urban...Riley...etc, you would ensure a top 5 coach...
I’m not sure I have a couple friends that are small time donors & 1 of them told me he thought he could specify where his donation could go but he wasn’t sure

On cue like a broken record. Would you rather have Sonny Dykes?
Anybody not named Franklin, and it has nothing to do with coaching ability. Tennessee would probably win a lot of games. Hate me if you want, call me what you want...but I don't want a guy that fostered such a rotten entitled culture that something like that was able to happen...he sickens me.

Look..I wanna win as much as anybody, and giving players illegal benefits means nothing to me...every program worth a damn does tba...but that Vanderbilt horror show is the product of James Franklin.

I cannot and will not get behind him..

Example - do you honestly think Danny White is going to hire Dykes like hundreds of VN posters, VQ, social media, Chris Low and others have been spouting could happen? When people get in a frenzy over something that is ridiculous it spreads throughout the media so they can get clicks and generate attention. It makes it that much harder for the people actually doing the work to do the work without public harassment and ridicule.

But I agree on UT having been rank amateurs since Doug Dickey and Joe Johnson retired - 20 years ago. But there are 4 new, previously successful professionals with great experience at what they do leading this search and making the decisions. Proven professionals. They deserve the space to do what they do. Which is why I said to wait until the hire is made to go crazy. JMO.
we agree here, my point was it’s not difficult for even the most optimistic and knowledgeable members to forget we have an upgrade in leadership running this search.

What would everyone’s reaction be if DW hired Tom Herman? I know some of you are not on board, but I think a lot would be ecstatic. Just curious

I can't say that I know that much about him, but I think we have had good experience with a Texas reject. So, I think I would be very much on board.

Am I remembering this wrong or did Hubbs say this afternoon that the flight we were tracking that went to Atlanta was no big deal, some unrelated university business?

Then tonight AP says big meeting in Atlanta?

Correct. Seems like someone is leaking false information to get the fans riled up.

How realistic is Cristobal?

-AP

He makes perfect sense. Not sure it could happen, but he would be a perfect hire for us. HC at a “peer” institution, straight forward personality, lots of ties to the south, knows what it takes to win, and probably wants to be at a power program in the south. I’d say he is on Bama’s short list for when Saban retires. I would much rather have him on our sideline than have him kicking our ass for another 10 years.
