Umm. Bob Stoops and Heupel are definitely not friends. Bob Stoops liked Heupel at one point I guess lol.
Not to be a Debbie Downer but in this particular example. Bob Stoops fired Heupul also.

"That's good enough for me" and "he would crawl through broken glass" were the hot phrases during this coaching search cycle. I just wanted to throw it on here one more time. 😁

If Heupel wasn't fat and looked like a dork in that batman outfit most of y'all would be happy

I don’t care if he looks like Joseph Merrick so long as he wins games.

Also, I’d bet the vast majority of this Board has no grounds to be making fun of someone’s weight or looks.

The fact that you are dismissing every single thing there is to like about JH but are basing your whole argument on resumes is funny. How did those last few esteemed crop hires do?

Frost is doing great at Nebraska. Herman killed it at Texas. Harbaugh was this close to winning a title at Michigan this year.
As soon as he proves he can win at Tennessee I'll be fine reinvesting....my money my decision what to do with it. Funny thing is this is a message board where my opinions matter little to nothing same as yours....

As someone who has been an underdog most of my life, here is a particular take:

Our last few coaches arrived here because of name (Kiffin, Dooley) or the coattails they were riding on (Butch, Pruitt).

Think about it - both Kiffin and Dooley had questionable coaching records before coming here but because they carried a well-known name everyone assumed they were going to be awesome.

Butch followed Kelly everywhere and Pruitt was just a DC under big time head coaches. Everyone thought they would be good by correlation.

Heupel may be terrible, or he could turn out to be an awesome hire. I do identify with him some as someone not graced with a coaching royalty name or who just coasted on the coattails of someone else. He seems to have legitimately made his way up to where he is.

I am going to take a wait and see approach and hope that the players will be able to identify with him and invest in the program

We have paid UCF around 6 million $$$ for their AD and their coach in buyout $$$. We are still paying Fulmer his buyout and if Pruitt sues and gets 1/2 of what he was owed (6 million $$) then how in the heck did UT decide it was better to fire for cause than to just fire Pruitt and Fulmer and avoid all the negativity with the program. This makes absolutely no sense. We actually may end up spending more $$$ trying to fire for cause than we would have if we would have just fired for performance.

Not to mention how other top coaches view what you just said. It's a big turn-off to them and exactly why no coach wants anything to do with UT. You hire a man, you ought to have his back and defend him. UT's mistake was hiring PF back. He,in his own mind, may of had good intentions but the game has passed him by.

It'll be interesting to read more on Briles' offensive scheme. I do know they use a lot of RPO, attack the middle of the field, while taking vertical shots.

It appears Heupel uses wide splits to negative S/CB help in the run game. We'll throw it quick, spread the field and find mismatches and (hopefully) exploit them

I don’t care to argue it. But Heupel right now is not viewed anywhere close to Kiffin. Kidding ourselves if you think that. One has coached at major universities and in the NFL. The other has coached at one university that went undefeated the year before he took over for just three years.
There is a major over statement of Kiffins accomplishments

Look, at worst, we just need Heupel not to be a disaster. Just be okay. Just guide us through the difficulty we're facing, get the roster in decent shape, and just don't have disaster seasons like 4-8, 5-7 or garbage like that. Win 8 games a year for 5 years and we'll be in way better shape than we are now and maybe we attract a better coach if we decide to make a move then. At the very least, just don't be a disaster. I don't think he will be. He may be very good. At worst, he might be that bridge hire that we need.

I have been a lurker for quite a while here. I read everyday, but have no insight to post.

I feel like we would all be ok with this hire had the administration tailored the expectations. The slam dunk hiring of DW paired with the big time talk ruined us. It made us think we were swinging for the fences. Maybe they did and failed. Who knows. However, JH is not bad at all. We have all been bitching about offense for a while. As long as the defensive hires are good, we might come out of this smelling like a rose. A **** covered rose, but still a rose.

Look on the bright side. Coaching searches have been the most fun I have had with UT football in 15 years. Maybe we get to do it again in couple.
