Very complicated.

He's never felt the love from the fanbase that he thinks he deserves - and I think he's right to a degree.

Imagine being the last QB to ever bring a title home and yet you still hear about the other QB who never beat Florida, lost to Memphis and never won a title here. I feel for Tee.always have.literally Tennessee’s step child

So what does a reduction of 4 scholarships means??

does that mean 84 for 4 years?

does that mean 81 for one year?

does it mean 24 signed 4 years?

Does it mean 21 signed 1 year?

Hope that makes sense

Depends on ruling. At penn state they did both. Starting w 65 cap. NCAA quickly went back on that. Set it at 75 cap for 1 year, 80 the next, then normal 85 after that. Same thing w incoming classes. 15 then 20. Then normal 25. Don’t see how any penalty is ever higher than penn states...

We absolutely love Tee. We just don't want him as HC because he is incredibly unqualified. If he really thinks that, he needs to get over himself.
He didn't expect to be considered for the Head Coach job.

He wanted to stay on the staff and it is apparent he has been told that won't happen. He waited around through Jeremy Pruitt chastizing both he and Graham for taking the pay cuts because he loves the university and wanted to stick around. Fulmer made him some assurances that he knew wouldn't be honored once Phillip was fired, but he turned down other opportunities anyway to wait and see who the next coach would be.

He and Heupel have some beef, apparently, and separate from that point, it appears Heupel has another coach in mind for the WR coach spot. That's life in this business. But it does come with some hurt feelings for a guy who has never felt like he was truly appreciated here.

I’m just going to assume that Heupel 100% cleans house
staff could prolly look something like

HC: Heupel
OC/QB: Jeff Lebby
DC: Kevin Steele OR Zach Arnett
RB: Montario Hardesty
WR: Kodi Burns
TE/ST: Alex Golesh
OL: Glen Elerbee
DL: Rodney Garner (I think we could get him even without Steele)
LB: Mike Stoops
DB: Ryan Smith
S: Bill Busch

Why? What is the reasoning behind it? I'm not seeing what there really is to bash. He has better offenses than Harsin that was hired at Auburn in a tougher conference. Harsin was universally praised. Heupel also has a higher win %. He also has coached in the SEC and had the top offense at a mid level school.
We would have had to hire one of the top 5 coaches to get the media to shut up with their Tennessee bashing! They still think Shiano was a good hire for the lowly hillbilly idiots.

I'm not going to go down this road. I have my opinion of the situation.

I don't care if it's Tee Martin or whoever, I don't like all you coach worshipping dorks turning on guys who played here just because a new coach has determined they are expendable. Same thing happened when Butch was hired with Tee and Jay.

Same thing happened after Pruitt's first year with Terry Fair.

Same thing is happening now with Phillip Fulmer.

Jay was actually asked to stay.

Just because you played here doesn’t make you untouchable. Tee is a horrible coach and was only brought in because Phillip forced it to Pruitt.

I love all my vols, current and former but check into reality when you think Tee deserves a shot because he won a natty.

I've taken his side more times than not. Butch and Dooley both yanked him around and ended up driving Amari to Clemson. That strengthened the pipeline that cost us Higgins and other players. Pruitt did what Pruitt does and infighting within his staff put Tee and Jay on the outs when they were trying to help UT. So much of the time UT reaps what it sows.
Im a little confused by this, it isn't Tee and Jay's fault, but if the new HC doesn't want them he shouldn't be forced to keep them. As far as HC ive tried to carry the torch for Tee but he really isn't ready for a big job and Graham isn't either. Im sorry but I don't think either one have anything to complain about. They've been given chances it just hasn't worked.

I can imagine that a place (the University and fans) that you love so much either doesn't love you as much in return or actively hurts you would suck badly.

He doesn't get the credit he deserves as a player, but he also shouldn't be rewarded as a coach for what he did as a player.

I didn't advocate making him HC. I'm glad he's moving on to find opportunities elsewhere, and I wish him success. Right now, UT is... well, people can pick their adjective.

That all is understandable, but not that 'doesn't feel like he's gotten the love he deserves' bs. I think myself and 98% of the UT fanbase would love if him and Graham were hired on the new staff in their current positions.

He has a street named after him and most people have never really said anything bad about him as a person, so I'm not sure what his issue would be. He's been a position coach for 11 years now and there's a reason for that. He's a great recruiter and an average coach. That 98 team was stacked. Are we just supposed to salivate over the fact that he was the qb for that team? I have no problem with him but im not sure what else we as a fanbase are supposed to do?
I hate saying this, because he was the QB on our only modern era championship team, but if he thinks he deserves Peyton Manning-type adulation from UT fans, then he has delusions of grandeur. Tee is loved by this fanbase and welcomed with open arms every time he's on campus - I really hope he thinks he isn't hated or something like that.

To answer your question (I know you asked it rhetorically), yes. I think he thinks we're supposed to salivate over him because he played at a really prominent position on an undefeated, national title-winning team. Even though he didn't carry that team, even though he wasn't the best player on that team, and even though someone like Peyton Manning is loved also because of things he did in his NFL career. The game was different in those days and you didn't necessarily have to have eye-popping stats from a QB in order to win.
