Swain also said that one thing that worries him about Huepel’s offense is that it doesn’t produce NFL receivers. He said guys will put up a lot of numbers, but that they won’t be developed because they will mainly be running quick slants and screens but won’t be learning the entire route tree. Is that true?
We just have to be patient with defense. We’re gonna be changing systems and our offense will ask a lot of our defense when they will have quick empty series. I think it’s gonna be more important to focus on what our defense does in the red zone vs how many yards and points they give up especially in year one. Our defense will probably end up actually being better than their ranking at the end of the year. I’m really glad we have those 3 non conf games at the starts. It’s like we get a practice run, we test it against Pitt then we can tweak it the next week and hopefully by the time we get to florida we have a little bit of confidence built on both sides.Yup. I see that line playing well in a different system. I just hope he nails the defensive hires. I think they will do work on offense.
He already was at SC and got firedYeah I just revisited Tee's resume, I think he needs to go be the OC somewhere for 2-3 years and prove himself. I doubt a power 5 is going to give him that, but if he can get on calling plays and show he's capable of doing it full time he's got all the potential to be a HC some day.
Imagine giving Florida 400 yards of offense but holding them to kicking 3's. I'll take itWe just have to be patient with defense. I can't wait to watch this offense. If we take the type of leap Mizzou did in year 1 we are gonna have a special season. If nothing else, it will be tremendously fun to watchHighly impressed by JH in this interview, loved how he talked about tweaking his offense based on the personnel. Man he is super confident about his offense, I love that.
What the heck is swain talking about?Tre'Quan Smith went in the 3rd round in 2018 (Heupel's first season) - has played in 40 games with 80 receptions in his 3 seasons so far for the Saints
Gabriel Davis went in the 4th round in this past 2020 draft - caught 35 for 599 in his rookie season with the Bills
2015 - Dorial Green-Beckham & Bud Sasser both drafted, DGB went in the 2nd round and was doing big things before his off the field issues took him out of the game. Sasser never played a snap though
A few WRs while he was OC at OU that got drafted: Kenny Stills, Ryan Broyles, Justin Brown, Jalen Saunders, Sterling Shepard, Dede Westbrook...
