Resumes at this point are fairly similar. Butch had more of a track record working at two programs, and both had the question of following a successful coach, though Kelly spent more time prior to Butch than Frost/Heupel.

Here are the grades for each coming out of UCF/Cincy.

Heupel: 82
Offense: 88
Defense: 77
Recruiting: 74

Butch: 80
Offense: 82
Defense: 76
Recruiting: 80

My issue with Butch at the hire was a) riding Brian Kelly's coattails and b) no play-calling experience. I bought in that March when he got that big slew of commits with JH and TKjr. Ultimately though I believe my concerns were valid.

Ok, gonna give this another shot.

Here's a breakdown of a few 2017 Missouri games using two things.

1. Missouri's expected offensive efficiency (ESPN) given their talent. (53.62, slightly above average)

2. Opponents' actual defensive efficiency reported for 2017. We're measuring the value added by Heupel, without taking into account sucky coaches (thanks Morris/Arky...)

I'll then take the differences and use them to compare against Tennessee's 2020 schedule, for example:
2017 Missouri expected offense: 53.62
2017 Florida actual defense: 59.1
Difference: -5.48

2020 Tennessee expected offense: 64.95
2020 Texas A&M actual defense: 69.9
Difference: -4.95

Now for the results

South Carolina: L 31-13
Talent Diff: -12.68
Similar 2020 Defense: Alabama (-12.65)

Kentucky: L 34-40
Talent Diff: +10.12
Similar Opponent: Florida (+10.05)

Florida: W 45-16
Talent Diff: -5.48
Similar Opponent: Texas A&M (-4.95)

Tennessee: W 50-17
Talent Diff: +6.52
Similar Opponent: LSU (+5.35)

Vanderbilt: W 45-17
Talent Diff: +16.62
Similar Opponent: Missouri (+28.25)

So in summary, with our roster, Heupel’s results at Missouri were equivalent to scoring (in 2020 w/ Tennessee):

13 points on Bama
34 on Florida
45 on A&M
50 on LSU
45 on Missouri

These were great, thanks

Someone please explain to me why Kiffin (a great offensive mind, with questionable defense and nagging maturity issues) would have been a home run, but Heupel (a great offensive mind, with questionable defense and no known maturity issues) is just Butch V2.0?

And on the subject of Butch V2.0, would 8-4 be such a bad thing at this point? Oh...and Salter and HB are just a touch better than Dormady and Worley. I won't hazard a guess as to how either does relative to Dobbs, but I have far higher confidence in Heupel's ability to make any QB more successful than Butch.

If it’s Steele, there are absolutely zero positives about waiting so long to announce it.

imo it took 3-4 days to let the emotions die down for Steele before he started to come around to wanting the job.

now we are Working out the details of what the bare minimum is we have to pay.

Yeah moving away and voting in the same kind of people they moved away from. Makes a lot of sense don’t it.

It's all about the dollar. People may like voting a certain way but still don't want more dollars taken from them. Or they want to live in a normal living space.

Tweets good and moxy? He’s not. Resume slightly longer, but just because he’s older. Heupel > Kiffin.

Also...when ya breakdown Drew Lock's numbers he's not as elite as ya think.

I actually think HB could put up really impressive numbers under CJH, mainly because of his accuracy and decision making. Feel like Chaney's playcalling made every QB slower on the release so I'm not worried about that side of things.
I said the other day that JH squeezed every possible drop he could out of Drew Locke. He was crap before Heupel and worse after him.

HB wont start in this offense. He has 3 guys behind him with better arm talent that fit the mold of what Josh Heupel is trying to do. Going to be an interesting spring practice but my guess is he will transfer. Also to note. Josh Heupel recruited Brian Maurer. so there is a familiarity there.
Better arm talent? What in the hell are you talking about?
