There are quite a few of well thought out and rational points that UCF fans have written about it. There are very few that I have seen that were mad, most were very happy. That is telling of their sentiment. Maybe there are silly fans or maybe they have observed Heupel in far greater detail than Vols fans.
It’s pretty simple. They think they are going to hire a big name next. And maybe they will but that’s their excitement. Don’t fool yourself

I don't study the game at a high level, so I have to trust what I read and a few people I talk to who understand schematics.

But my understanding is this is not Lane Kiffin's Ole Miss offense. It is basically Briles' Baylor offense.
Lol..they are not that much different..plus Heupel has tweaked his offense for different reasons..like for instance the last two years having a lowly regarded, weak armed kid at UCF and figuring out how to best use him to still move the ball and score points.

You wanna be a drag...go ahead, that is your prerogative. I don't know what the hell you expected. I guess hiring a guy with a worse offense would have a made you happy...that makes a lot of ******* sense.

I was told for decades that these type of offenses wouldn't work in the SEC, and I believed it until I watched them absolute decimate everyone.

Look..we are going to have trouble beating teams with more talent for awhile, and that was always going to be true no matter who we hired, or what freaking offense they run, but at least we should start curb stomping lesser talented teams and hopefully beating the piss out of the mid tier of the SEC once things get going...that is great thing to me.

You wanna suck your thumb and bitch and moan..go for it. I think I want to support this guy and cheer him on, we need everybody to have a better f'n attitude in order to give them the best shot at succeeding...have a nice freaking day.

Is Tennessee really going to botch the defensive coordinator and staff hire?

The lack of info is concerning unless they are hiring a sitting defensive coordinator and he wants to get through signing day.

I know what they were ranked in 2017, and I know how they got there and how hollow it was.

72 points vs. Missouri State, 34 points vs. Kentucky in a loss, 28 points vs. Georgia in a loss, 68 points vs. Idaho, 52 points vs. UCONN, 45 points vs. Florida (good showing here, but that team had quit on McElwain at this point.), 50 points vs. Tennessee (same thing for Butch Jones), 45 vs. Vanderbilt, 48 vs. Arkansas, 16 vs. Texas in the bowl.

Again, we are absolutely going to score points. Debating that would be silly. I just don't think this offense is built to score on teams that have similar talent or a talent advantage. We will feast on bad teams, no-show against good teams. And on the talent side, we've already lost basically an entire signing class to the portal, have a notoriously average recruiter as HC (and staff as it is currently constructed), and we will very likely have scholarship reductions for the next two to three years.

The more I read, I just don't know why we went in this direction. We needed someone who can do more with less because we were always going to have a lean couple of years.
I think that there is some validity to what you are saying, but it is not necessarily feast or famine, IMO. No-show is a very strong word when we have no evidence one way or the other. Obviously, playing against better talent and coaching will impact how much we score. It does not mean we will no-show and get run. We may be awful, but I think you don't have enough data to make the suppositions you are making. JMO.

I love when you get a little fire under your ass, McGill.

Personally, I kinda love the lack of info. Hopefully Danny removed the leaks within the AD.

We just saved $12 million on Pruitt's buyout. I think it would behoove us to just pay Kevin Steele, get a good DC and start winning football games. I would like to punish Auburn as much as the next person, but quibbling over this amount and who is paying what is not helping our team.

I have loved CJH's answer on what kind of player works best in "your system":

He says every year the staff evaluates the players and they design the system to best utilize the talents. May be 4 WR sets one year and 2 TE sets the next. Therefore, there is no "perfect" player for the system, there is a more perfect system to fit the player.

Refreshing if true and Butch, Pruitt, and Malzahn could all learn something from that outlook.

Yep. Our offense in time will be good enough. The future of Josh Heupel and this program lies with the hires he makes on defense. I really really don't like how long it's taking, makes me think they've missed on targets and are begging Steele to stay.

if not you really have to question the true willingeness to win. I fervently believe that many 'middle of the road' Vol fans who donate what they can, and, hold ST's are close to end of their ropes. I've looked at this thing with Orange Tinted glasses, the admin HAS to get its head removed and exercise clarevoyance.

or Steele's been the guy all along and they're waiting until after NSD to announce

I wouldn't say more than Butch, but they are essentially the same.

It's going to come down to whether or not Heupel can recruit at an above average level and can he find a way to adjust his offense to protect the defense while not sacrificing points.
Resumes at this point are fairly similar. Butch had more of a track record working at two programs, and both had the question of following a successful coach, though Kelly spent more time prior to Butch than Frost/Heupel.

Here are the grades for each coming out of UCF/Cincy.

Heupel: 82
Offense: 88
Defense: 77
Recruiting: 74

Butch: 80
Offense: 82
Defense: 76
Recruiting: 80

If it’s Steele, there are absolutely zero positives about waiting so long to announce it.
It appears we are quibbling with Auburn over who will pay what and that is the cause of the delay in announcing Steele's role on staff. Plus, it appears there is some question whether Steele really wants to work next year since he is going to get his money (From Auburn) whether he works or not. Any money TN pays him just off sets the money Auburn must pay him. So really the money is no incentive for him to work.

Leaked footage Into how Bama recruits so well.

Truthfully I believe he can use that pitch now due to sustained success. However, was that the pitch 10 years ago? Pretty sure there was some $$$ talked about as well. Built it up enough to where you don’t have to pay out for everyone, just the biggest of fish.
