Recruiting Forum Football Talk III

For those still in on the Simpson debate - what is it exactly do you want from a QB for CJH's O than what is already in the QB room? There are two HS Elite 11's, one being the MVP his year (HB), both being unstoppable in HS from two of the top HS football states in America. Both were born to be QB's and leaders. That an embarrassment of riches already and both are still classified as freshmen.

Then, there are Maurer and Hooker. Both have started games in P5 football. Both have been underdeveloped. Maurer was pressed into duty before he was physically and mentally prepared for it, but had flashes of good play. Hooker got a lot of starts in at VaTech and had flashes of good play as well, especially with running the ball. Both of these guys got the shaft with development. Now, they will get Josh -Mr. QB - Heupel to develop them in an exciting spread offense that is balls to the wall lightning fast.

Getting Simpson would be fine, but he is going to have to sit for awhile. The narrative we need him to have a good recruiting class is false IMO. It's a new day and a new way with new coaches who do things differently and hopefully, much better. Hiring Garner signals that message immediately on D. Showing what the O can do this fall will demonstrate it to O recruits if they don't already know.
I don’t think it’s about who we have for me, it’s more about that this kid is another lifelong Vol fan and we’re gonna lose him to Clemson (again) or to Bama the same week we lose our best player to Bama. The optics are awful, on top of the fact that this kid is everything you want in a quarterback, not just physically, but all the intangibles that come along with being a coach’s son. He would also be a huge recruiting tool for us to help bring in other great players. I think this will be a big loss.

More like the Vomitron. I remember going to the Tennessee Valley Fair as a kid in the 80sand seeing so many sunburned reds flee the ride to hurl into those metal barrel trash cans. The heat of the summer day would just cook it all up in that metal container. The whole area around that ride was an ralphing war zone and smelled terrible.

Then you may be too young to remember the Wild Mouse at Chilhowee Park.

The thrill of that ride was that there was always a chance that your car might end up in the lake.

I don’t give a crap what it LOOKS like. Deal and fix. Only other option is the fetal position...which I heard tell is pretty uncomfortable.

If Simpson picks one of the blue blood teams--Bama, Clemson, OSU--I believe he will definitely have to sit for at least a year because those teams are loaded with QB's and he'll probably need a year in the weight room. If he wants to start somewhere immediately, he may go play for a lesser power program. If he's good enough, the NFL will find him no matter where he plays. I'll use Tony Romo as an example----undrafted free agent from Eastern Illinois University.

It’s done. ✍✍✍

I just think we need this kid and to lose another instate prespect like this sucks. I’m sure we’re going to see him on TSIO during a player Bio showing him in a Tennessee jersey as 16 year old right after he torches us for another TD. $hit got real old the last 3 years w/ Trevor Lawrence.

We'll see how big of a life-long Vol fan he is soon enough. If he signs with Alabama or Clemson, then he wasn't much of a fan....

Agree with this. If getting 2 of the top 3 TN prospects, would prefer Hayden and Nolen. Would like all 3 but think that will be difficult.

Respect your opinion even if I don't agree. If he announces next week for someone else, he did not given this staff much of an opportunity. That's also not much of a life long Vol fan in my book. But he can do what he wants, it's his life. He could announce and then flip back later, although it may be too late at that point.

Well, he went with others from the staff including Steele who is still here, so I highly doubt it
Knowing Pruitt's personality, he probably thought he was safe at UT right up until the day he got fired. He probably thought he could get away with his recruiting practices because it was never an issue at Bama or any of his other stops. Then BAM!:cool::cool:

Survived all 3 seasons of Trevor. Would’ve been better if we had hired a better HC. Is what it is. I’m not quitting so errything else is background noise.

It's ridiculous..I don't partake myself, but it is major hypocrisy for alcohol to be legal and so widely accepted and Marijuana to still have this ridiculous stigma attached to it.

As someone who has consumed vast quantities of both in my past I can say with absolute conviction that alcohol is by far a worse drug...far more bad things happen because of alcohol consumption.
One of the major issues around it being legal is there is no way to test if someone is currently under the influence of pot. Saliva tests cover up to 24 hours, blood a couple days, and urine up to a month. With alcohol you can do a breathalyzer or BAC test and know if the person is over a set limit. not a huge deal if someone is flipping burgers, but when people are driving an 18-wheeler or operating other dangerous equipment companies have to be able to determine their state of inebriation. Right now pee and saliva tests are the easiest so if you smoked last night and get into a wreck this morning you're up a creek with no paddle.
