Here is a question for the group. Knowing absolutely nothing about what is happening behind the scenes, would you be less satisfied with a DC that is young and has been super successful at a smaller school or lesser division if he were thought to be a defensive innovator of sorts by the coaching community in general but not known to the average fan ? Or do we have to have someone that has either been known to have had some amount of success at a larger school or the Pros even if they are not the Home Run hire?

Yes

At this point, let's just get someone who is breathing and move on. It's a crap shoot. Who knows if anyone will have success with restrictions, etc.?

So ya’ll tell me why we want Conklin? No trolling but what’s he run defense wise—this was approximately 20 to 30 coaches and 5,000 plus Volnation recruiting forum pages ago. He had a cup of coffee here—what’s his deal?
Why? Because everyone else we've asked has said no, and he's better than the other names being mentioned IMO.

Of course.

I really want to think DW was a good hire and I want him to show me/prove it, but right now all I see is another Bahama-john.... People keep saying "airtight", "no leaks" and everything so far has been basically leaked and has hurt our chances with the next candidate....

By process of elimination, he seems to be the last guy left in the entire country that we have a shot at

Be interesting to see if the laws in some states don't affect the NCAA as a whole in the near future. We've ran into it at my work with people legally doing something then getting popped when they get back from vacation.
It has to be addressed or company's will lose hard working men and women that feel it is their right to use it.

It’s an interesting wording of your question and there are two ways to answer it. Crazy Vol fans might say the young hungry unknown coach “ain’t never been a DC in the SEC he’ll get eat alive” or for the non-home run hire “what’s he done—I don’t like him” if this were a normal situation considering Tennessee if we had no issues you’d go for the proven guy. All things considered I think you take what you can get because our timing sucks on these coaching searches it’s sucked since way back when—and it continues to...at some point we will get it right but it’s killing the fans.

Hubbs with a pretty brutal update:

Rodgers likely to stay in the NFL.

We’ve had discussion with Banks from penn state.

White is definitely involved.

Also when asked if it’s true some people are pushing this hire to diversify the staff, he said..“I think that’s apparent with the people Tennessee has spoken with”

We're way past what we need. We've moved on to what can we get?
